Saving stories I write during school Ebonypaw's Exile It was a cloudy day that day. The air was humid and the sky was hidden with fog. Hawkstar’s voice rang through ShadowClan’s camp as he called out while perched atop Clanrock. “Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath Clanrock!” Just in front of Clanrock sat Ebonypaw, who was shifting nervously in his seat, his black-and-white tail thumping against the dusty earth beneath him. “Ebonypaw,” Hawkstar called out. “you have broken the Warrior Code by not being loyal to your clan. Multiple patrols have recalled you sharing prey with Thunderclan cats.” Scowled Hawkstar. The tom’s ears lay flat against his head as Hawkstar’s voice rang in his head like a loud bell. “It is because of this outrageous act that I, Hawkstar, leader of ShadowClan, sentence you to exile!” “Y-You can’t! I ‘m just an apprentice, I can’t be exiled!” “But you have broken the Warrior Code. Even if you’re just an apprentice, it’s still a mousebrained thing to do. Either accept your exile and never show your face here again, or be driven out by the clan’s warriors. Choose. Now.” Ebonypaw’s heart sank. “B-But, those Thunderclan cats needed me! They were starving after the fire! We have plenty of prey to share!” Ebonypaw pleaded. Hawkstar hissed at Ebonypaw’s defense. “Sharing with those mouseeaters? Pathetic.” An elder in the crowd scoffed scornfully. Dewhaze, who was watching as her apprentice quarreled with the leader, took a pawstep forward, her milky white fur glistening in the sun. “Ebonypaw had done nothing wrong!” Dewhaze hissed. “That fire had damaged us all. Thunderclan had helped guide us to safety, so Ebonypaw lending them well needed freshkill is fair.” The she-cat stated. Hawkstar paused, a contemplative look on his face. He stayed like that for what seemed like forever, before speaking up again. “It seems my judgement was wrong. Ebonypaw,” he called to the apprentice. “You are no longer sentenced to exile. May StarClan approve my choice of letting this cat stay.” The leader said, bowing his head thoughtfully. The rest of the clan cheered with delight as Ebonypaw rushed to touch noses with Dewhaze. “Oh thank you! Thank you, thank you, thank you!” He purred to Dewhaze. “If you haven’t saved my back out there, I would have been crow-food!” “It’s me who should be thanking you. You broke the Warrior Code for what was right. You risked exile just to be fair. That’s worth more thanks than StarClan could ever give. Now, get your flank back in that medicine den, mousebrain!” The she-cat scolded playfully. “Smokymeadow has caught greencough.” “On it!” The tom declared proudly as they both padded off.
