Today one of my good friends AussieAbby came over for some help with one of my former horses! Chess is a dressage stallion who we thought would be a great fit to teach Abby about dressage as well as improve with her as his rider! So I taught Abby some of the basics by having her and Chess walk, trot, and canter on the quarter line. This exercise was to teach Abby the basic principles of dressage, Straight, forward, and balance. While Chess excels with forward, he has issues with straightness and balance. I had Abby keep a much more constant pressure on the bit to support Chess, especially through his turns. It's really a big adjustment to ride a dressage horse if you don't usually ride a horse in very consistent frame while maintaining elasticity, and this seemed to be the major difficulty with Chess and Abby! Overall, they were both awesome and Abby is such a willing student! I was happy to have them over and my barn and property is always open for Abby!
