Pälysovia-Rønnd is a union of two nations, long separated yet similar, a country of many oddities, at least to the wider world. Situated upon an island far in the north, and inhabited by Geometrans found practically nowhere else on the world map (not 100% confirmed yet), the country seems to almost have a sense of mystery to it. -HISTORY- Pälysovia-Rønnd's history is a long story. Long ago, the people of the Pälysovia-Rønnd were herding nomads scattered far and wide across the northern continents' inhospitable frontiers, living where others struggled - nobody wanted the land, so they took it for their own. However, these oddballs would slowly be pushed out of their old lands by the ever-expanding march of other kingdoms. In an attempt to escape the situation that was quite literally closing in on them, near the turn of the 1st millennium, many made the daring attempt to gather what livestock they could and make the voyage to what is now modern Pälysovia-Rønnd. Those who made it lost all contact with their mainland relatives, causing the diverse but unified culture to split into two distinct sects, the Pälysovs on the mainland and the Rønes on the island. Whereas Rønes continued to live their nomadic herding lifestyle amongst the island, (mostly) untouched by outside forces, the Pälysovs were forged by battle into a resilient batch of kingdoms all united under the purpose of warding off foreign invasion. Eventually, around 926, the Pälysovs and Rønes met again, through trade contact. The cultural differences over centuries of separation led the Pälysovs to subjugate their fellow Rønes through a series of wars that stretched on for nearly 200 years. Under Pälysovic reign, the easygoing Rønes were forced to conform to Pälysovic standards, destroying the blossoming culture they had worked so hard to build. However, no matter how hard the Pälysovs tried, the Rønes would never truly becomes Pälysovic. Around the mid 1300s, the Pälysovic kingdoms plunged into war regarding who would be the lucky monarch to unite Pälysovia. The winner was King Aadenwal the Conqueror, whose Drellic dynasty stretched 500 years. In the 1500s, a large push lead by outside forces drove out most, if not all Pälysovs on the mainland, forcing the remnants of the crumbling kingdom to flee for the island that they subjugated. This resulted in the mixture of both cultures on the one island that is present today. After this embarrassment, the Drellic dynasty very slowly fell from grace, until their destruction. Led mostly by Røne farmers in 1829, a revolt overthrew the monarchy and installed a republic that was free and fair for all - and Rønnd finally got autonomy for the first time in nearly 900 years. Røne culture made a huge comeback in the following years, as did Røne freedoms, with the country slowly achieving more and more autonomy, until the country of Pälysovia officially abolished the Autonomous Territory of Rønnd and established Pälysovia-Rønnd, a comprehensive union of both countries. Which leads to now. -ECONOMIC- The country is a free market, dual representative republic, with high levels of economic and social freedom. Pälysovia-Rønnd, while not a modern country by any standards, is quickly catching up, with a modernizing and diversifying industry, especially in maritime fields. Much of the national income derives from the huge fishing and farming sectors, paired with the quickly growing steelmaking and maritime manufacturing corporations. The currency is the dlap, a currency that has stood for upwards of 2000 years.
-MILITARY- The Pälysov-Røne Armed Forces really aren't all that intimidating. They don't need to be - they only need to enforce the country's independence. The forces are small, but well-equipped to make up for the number disadvantage. The county also has a great logistics system, which helps. However, the military relies too much on its upsides, making it nearly defenseless without their advantages. The lack of recent conflict also doesn't help military experience, with the army practically having no combat experience, meaning the generals aren't exactly very competent. -GOVERNMENT- The two member states manage their own laws, policies, and governments, but meet monthly at the "Lœdensteg" to manage international issues and complications. The Lœdensteg is currently controlled by the spearheading Democracy Social (nicknamed the Pink) Party of Rønnd, while Pälysovia is dragged along by a coalition of centrist and mild conservative parties. However, elections are due soon - and the political balance seems to be shifting crucially beforehand, worryingly towards more polarized sects. Much of the rural Rønes feel ostracized by the recent push for mass industrialization, and dissatisfied Pälysovic workers are gravitating further away from the dominant centrism. The country's moderate-liberal lead is slowly being tugged back by rising extremism. If left unchecked, this concerning trend threatens to tear apart the bonds of the union - or worse, shatter the fragile Pälysovia-Rønnd into more than just two pieces.
