• Chimerism: Chimerism is a rare genetic condition in most animals, and even humans, where two embryos fuse in the womb to create one singular embryo containing two different sets of DNA. In terms of cats, this generally causes many unique appearances of fur and eye color, including heterochromia (differently colored eyes), as well as fur with split colors. However, two different sets of DNA commonly result in different or even mixed blood types, so this also puts cats at higher risk of diseases of the immunity system, as well as infertility. • CIP (congenital insensitivity to pain): CIP, which stands for congenital insensitivity to pain, is a group of extremely rare genetic conditions which are caused by certain mutations in the genes, which require inheritance from both parents. It causes complete absence of nociception, the sensation that alerts the body to pain (nociceptors are the nerves which transport pain signals to the brain) This means that the body cannot tell or recognise severe medical emergencies, often leading to dangerous situations.
