As a child, she sparked an explosion that everyone survived, but she now has burn scars and severe trauma as a result, and she can only make something explode if she is in direct contact with it. She has a traumatic backstory, and has cut all ties with her family except for Lavender. She is ten years younger than her sister, Acacia, and three years older than her brother, Finn. She was born three minutes after Lavender, making an unexpected appearance, given she was supposed to be stillborn. As a result, her parents always favored Lavender, often neglecting or outright abusing Astrea. Her family made a living off of capturing and selling dragons as live 'art' to other wealthy families. Astrea never approved of this, and sometimes went out of her way to find a way to free the imprisoned dragons. She was a competitive child, and her parents, despite their neglect and abuse, would tell her to do whatever it took to win, even if it meant using her power to off somebody, planting seeds of trauma that would remain with her for years to come. When she was ten years old, shortly before the Merge, Astrea lost her temper and caused the fireplace of her house to explode. All of her family made it out alive, but Astrea has scars from the encounter running up her left arm. She hates her powers, and goes out of her way to avoid using them. Her parents' encouragement didn't help with that, and when the Merge happened, one week after the explosion, Astrea didn't hesitate, fleeing the home she grew up in with Lav to find a better life.
