No disrespect to anyone who thinks differently, these are just my opinions. Not trying to upset anyone with this -Sonic Youth's Pre-Sister stuff (especially Confusion is Sex and Bad Moon Rising) is equally good as their peak stuff (also NYC Ghosts & Flowers is a fire album) -My Bloody Valentine's first album is almost better than Loveless. Almost. -III is a better Sebadoh album than Bubble & Scrape and The Freed Pig is a better song than Soul and Fire -Dinosaur Jr's self-titled is some of the best stuff they ever did -Pablo Honey is a good album -Steve Albini should be forgiven for all the bad stuff he said and did in his pre-Shellac bands. He was young and it was the 80s, don't give him crap for stuff he did when he was 20, he's dead fer chrissakes, leave him alone (Wingwalker is the best Shellac song btw) -I don't really care for Megadeth. Too many solos and I really can't stand Dave Mustaine's voice -Most new shoegaze isn't really great. There are exceptions (Parannoul, julie) but bands like Glare are kinda boring to me personally -Sometimes music sounds best when it's really barebones. Most of the time all you need is one guitar, one bass, and one drum kit. Shellac did it best (Steve, Bob, Todd, I love ya fellas) -I really don't like Sabrina Carpenter or her music. Her whole persona just makes me cringe -Tweez (Slint's first album) doesn't get enough love. Genuinely so many bangers on it -Q and Not U were one of the best DC hardcore bands while they were around -Fragile is better than Close to the Edge (idk if that's a hot take or not) -Polyphia suuuucks. I'm sorry if you like them, they just sound so soulless to me -Pavement is the best indie rock band ever -Small modern bands should get more attention. Examples: Being Dead, Dry Cleaning, Twisted Teens, etc. -G_d's Pee at State's End is Godspeed You! Black Emperor's best post-reunion album -Most bands' oldest and obscurest stuff is usually almost as good as their biggest hits Finally, one of my hotter takes: Siamese Dream is better than Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. I love Mellon Collie, it's got some of my favorite SP stuff (Zero, To Forgive, Muzzle, Where Boys Fear to Tread, Bodies, 1979, XYU) but there's just too much stuff on there and there's so many filler tracks that it really gets boring about halfway thru the second CD. Any song on Siamese Dream beats the first half of Mellon Collie easy. Hummer > Bullet with Butterfly Wings. Soma > Tonight Tonight. Fight me.
