Hello everyone! I don't have much to say in the desc bc i yap a bunch in the project, but i felt this needed to be said, so here it is. Official Lets Talk Studio: https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/51652289 Next Episode (Let's Talk: History was Super Queer!) https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1322794643/ ~~why is every christian i follow homophobic ToT~~ EDITED VERSION, AS MENTIONED IN PROJECT ↓ Let's Talk: Why I Believe My God Thinks Gay Is Okay Hello everyone! It’s PJOHoOTOA fangirl ^^. So, you know how being queer is unfortunately believed to be sinful by much of the Christian community? I am aware I am opening myself up to much controversy by saying this, but here it is: I disagree. And even if it /was/ because I know there is a fairly low chance I will change any minds of that, I still believe that god is okay with it. So, let's talk: why I believe my god is okay with the gay (hehe I made it rhyme >:D) There are going to be 7 chapters to this! { } Intro { } Let's break down commonly used anti-gay verses { } If it is condemning homosexuality, it's probably not applicable today. { } Pro-queer verses { } Queer is /not/ a choice { } umm so.. it is natural? { } Outro {Intro} So, guys, in conversations I have had with homophobic Christians, they have often been ended with agree to disagree and I respect your opinion. But I just realized: I don’t. You don’t like the songs I do? Opinion respected. You think theyna is not a good ship? Opinion respected. You think gay people should be banned from marrying? Opinion not respected. You think transitions should be outlawed? Opinion not respected. You think people must use the bathroom that correlates to their sex? Opinion not respected. Because when your "opinion" takes away people's rights, it is no longer an opinion. It is an attempt to harm a minority. You say you're doing it in the name of god, but whatever god that is, is not mine. {Lets break down commonly used anti-gay verses.} First, let us turn to Leviticus 18:20. "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." At this time, the only same-sex relationships really known were child x adult. There's a reason this says ‘woman, not male’ rather than ‘female, not male’ or ‘woman, not man. Because it's not talking about men. It’s about boys; this verse is criticizing adult men with male children. This is further supported if you look at the original copy in Hebrew. There is a companion verse to 18:22. it is leviticus 20:13. "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination..." The first "man" is translated from "ish" in original Hebrew, which means adult male. However, the second "male" was translated from "zacher", meaning a male of any age. if it was condemning consensual MLM relationships, why not use 2 adults? {If it were condemning homosexuality, here's why it's not applicable today} If you disagree with those interpretations and still believe queer is a sin, we still have 5 more chapters to go! ^^ If you think those verses are still against the gays, here's a bit more! There are 3 main reasons those rules would not be applicable today. Many rules in the bible are outdated. They were made to be rules to help at the time, not eternal moral laws. For example, let's take 1 Corinthians 14:34-35: "The women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church." There are also verses 1 Timothy 2:11–12. "Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet." Are you going to tell the woman in church, your teachers, your mother, and higher-ranking women not to talk, teach, or ask something of men? If these rules are allowed to be broken, why not homosexuality? One other argument that these rules are outdated is that they were written when as much reproduction as possible was needed to expand cities. Because homosexual lovers could not reproduce, it was considered a waste of a possible child. Because of the growing issue of /over/population today, I think we can all agree that this is no longer an issue. Finally, the New Testament says Christians are altogether 'released from the law' (Romans 7:6) and that Christ is the fulfillment of it. This means that the laws condemning homosexuality in the Old Testament are now released. If we are still strictly bound by every Old Testament law not explicitly mentioned by Jesus, then Christians would still be forbidden from wearing blended fabrics or eating pork. (cont in notes and credits bc i typed to much -_-)
{Pro-Queer Verses} Well, if you still believe the bible is against queer ppl... I don’t know what to tell you. Just kidding, of course I do! I am going to go through two verses that say "if gay /is/ a sin... ", as well as 2 little reasonings of my own! First of all, let's open up to 1 Peter 4:8 "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." This verse blatantly states that even if it was (I believe it isn’t) a sin to be gay, the love these people have for each other covers that. This statement is again repeated in Proverbs 10:12 "Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses." This again says that no matter what supposed offence the love is, because it's love, the offence is no longer relevant. Now, let's go to James 4:12 "There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?" That's right. Why are you judging me? That's God's job. As humans, our job is to love one another. God says what's right and wrong. And for my bits of reasoning! First of all, allow me to quote The Son. "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her." Alright. I'm waiting. The person of you who doesn't sin can criticize my "sin". Oh wait. That's no one but God. God is my father and my judge. Not you. Why is your sin more acceptable than mine? Now, for one last part in this lil chapter, let's talk trans. One main argument is "no, because god made us how he intended." Well, if God made everything how it should be, there would be no bread or wine. God made grapes and wheat for the same reason he made trans people, so we could take part in our own divine creation. and thats pretty cool of him if you ask me! {Queer is /not/ a choice} If you come after me in a debate with this, you are wrong. That's it. I did not choose to be the way I am. The trans girl in your class did not ask to want to escape her body. The gay boy down the street did not want to open himself up to extreme bullying and hate crimes. The non-binary kid you see in the hall doesn’t like explaining their pronouns to everyone and being looked at as if they are lying. The intersex kid was born like that. Being queer can cause extreme mental health issues when you feel wrong or unaccepted. I myself had and have struggles. But it's not god giving me those struggles. It’s the preacher online shouting in the camera that we must move away from the sin of gender confusion. And it's my mom refusing to use my agender friend's pronouns because they are "too confusing" and "stupid" and "why can't she just be a girl?" And it's you telling me to take “Christian” off my profile because I can't love god and sin like this. (True by the way <3333 Thank you to that person for the material ^^) And it's the homo/biphobic scratchers who bullied @_-MHA_NERD-_ into taking her own life. None of us chose to be a target. None of us chose to need to hide. So don't you dare tell me I did. {umm so.. it is natural?} Here's a science fact for you! Homosexuality is found in over 1500 animals! Guess how much homophobia is found in? 1. Why are /we/, the queer community, coonsidered the unnatural ones? It has also been discovered that homosexual animals are very important for a species survival! Why? Because when hetero parents die or abandon their kids, homosexual couples often adopt or care for the kids. ^^ Hetero couples don't usually do this, because they are too busy reproducing and caring for their own offspring. Offspring raised by homosexual parents also turn out completely fine, and are not at all worse than their hetero raised peers. Bonus fact: you know the “i” in LGBTQIA+? My sibling in Christ, thats intersex. Something you are born with, a physical attribute queer people can literally not help and you /cannot/ argue against! {Outro} So, in conclusion, queer is not a sin; if it were, it's still okay, it's not a choice, and it's natural! I know I got a bit deeper into my own experience than I do in a lot of my other projects, but I feel that was necessary. Because in reality, I can type here all day, but this isn’t just dumb internet debates and arguing. This is mental health and life and death. I love you guys, stay hydrated, comment anything you need to say, if you have any questions i will try my best to answer, and pls <3 + star and maybe follow if you found this interesting at all! until next time, this is @pjohootoafangirl logging off <33333 if you guys have any counters, feel free to comment below but FIRST if you dont mind, you could always read through others' comments bc they had some counters but quite repeptive and im tired of resonding to things over and over lol XP
