Elections have rolled around in Pälysovia-Rønnd. And it's one chaotic mess of an election, at least in the ~30 years of the Dual Republic. For years after the founding of the Dual Republic, the mild politicians dominated the governance of both nations, with Rønnd typically picking a more liberal lead, and Pälysovia sticking a little more conservative. The Pinks have won landslide elections nearly undisputed in Rønnd for the past three decades, just to show how set in stone these political alignments seemed. However, the order is changing rapidly. -Pälysovia- Pälysovia has been lead by a coalition between the Central Bloc Party and various conservative parties for the last eight years, headed by the influential and commanding Chancellor Michel Gruppten. However, the real man holding the coalition together was Dech Wasseljik, the chairman of the CBP. Wasseljik had spent the last seven months preceding election day ensuring the second re-election of his party and closest conservative allies, making political moves that especially appealed to the Pälysovic working class, a demographic that has been alarmingly drifting away from centrism and gravitating towards the Pälysovia First movement, a very unpleasant and undemocratic party, to say the least. However, a particularly disastrous scandal involving foreign petroleum industries saw Wasseljik's popularity tank, only made worse by Gruppten saving his own skin and deflecting all his involvement onto the already doomed man. Wasseljik quickly withdrew from politics, shamed and humiliated - and without him the otherwise stable coalition was doomed. The centrists tried to salvage the situation, but it was too late. The moderate-extreme conservatives, sensing an escape from coalition-ry and an opportunity for solo leadership, accused the centrists of bogging down economic expansion, and hastily quit, dragging along with them many opportunistic politicians who jumped along their bandwagon. Their more laid back allies quickly looked for different support with half of their backing gone, and just like that, the CBP watched their voting numbers go from 42% to 4%. This political fallout lead to a mild amount of unrest, mostly in the cities of Ørsesund and Sonderhalle. There were lots of protests and strikes, especially by more far-out groups, but nothing got too out of hand. The new Cabinet of Pälysovia is ruled over by the Grand Party, nicknamed the "Maroons", a conservative alliance formed in the fallout of the CBP's coalition. Much of it is actually made up of the conservatives who left the CBP coalition first. Gruppten, a mild conservative himself, is now again Chancellor. The second most popular party is the competing Equals for All Party (EfAP), a more liberal party who has been slowly garnering support in Pälysovia's urban centers. They hold a considerable swathe of the Cabinet, much to the concern of the Maroons. The third most part is, extremely worryingly, the aforementioned Pälysovia First Party. They will stop at absolutely nothing to get their way, and want to expand the military, project their power, and consolidate Pälysovic sovereignty over the Dual Republic... which really isn't a good idea for a country built on the ideal of equity and equality.
(TLDR AT BOTTOM!!!!!!) -Rønnd- Despite how chaotic things got in Pälysovia, Rønnd was actually pretty chill this election. The Pinks have won yet again - but not a landslide. Two new parties threaten to dethrone the Pinks, the Farmer's Party (the Greens) and the Agricultural Workers' Party (the Reddies) (if you haven't noticed, Pälysovia-Rønnd's citizens like to nickname parties with color names). The Greens promise the farmers of Rønnd - who have felt ostracized and left out by recent pushes for industrialization - liberties, subsidies, and benefits, which have resounded with the rural populace of the state. On the other hand, the Reddies bring rights for all workers to the table, looking to establish something of a more left-wing state in place of the representative republic, an idea that is gaining traction especially in groups of poor farmers specifically, and the workers of the sparse urban industrial sprawl in Rønnd. Many are getting tired of the Pinks, and their seeming inability to actually carry out the promises they make. It remains to be seen if re-elected President Petr Lassonberg can make those come true in order to save his party. -TLDR- -Centrist-conservative alliance kicked out in Pälysovia after oil scandal. -Gruppten is Pälysovic Chancellor again. Conservatives lead, liberals gaining ground, concerning extreme nationalist movement rising fast. Centrists are just gone. -Pinks still in Rønnd, Lassonberg still president. -Agrarians and socialists now competing with Pinks for influence, political race forecasted.
