Firstly I would like to say that while this is in response to a recent event, this will not be the last time that something like this happens. I feel it is necessary to make a project so you can understand our perspective on why we do this. I do understand that it does come off as insensitive; being in a crisis and having someone remind you of rules is very frustrating. I am sorry that what I gave them wasn't what they needed at that time. I do not blame the user for being mad at me and I do hope that they are well. I would like to address some of the points made by some curators. One of them being that I did not provide adequate advice. I feel that it is important to note that we are not required to provide comfort or advice. While we do value and strive to do those things, it is important to remember that some users may not be able to provide them. No one in the studio is professionally equipped to deal with sensitive situations. No one should be forced to deal with sensitive situations either. The Scratch Team also lacks the resources and knowledge to handle theses situations, which is why they do end up banning users. Scratch is not the place for these kinds of topics. Rule breaking shouldn't be ignored because the enforcer cannot provide comforting words. Personally I am not a system and I do not know the user. I was unable to provide what is considered adequate advice and comfort because of this. I did however try my best. So, why do we still do this? Even in crisis, upholding the rules is important as it ensures the safety of other users. If we do not enforce the rules, then the rules lose their respect and meaning. We cannot expect users to follow the rules if we do not uphold them. In this particular situation, I felt that it was important to remind the user to use a caps warning because multiple users are triggered by them. I do not want users to be triggered on a place that is meant to be safe for them. That rule exists for that sole reason. Many users have challenged the validity of this particular TW. Please remember that we are all different and live different lives. We all have different experiences. Anyone can be triggered by anything. People find the caps TW useless mostly because it wasn't created for them. The TW was added because we found that a large amount of users are triggered by them. Lastly, I must stress that there is a difference between feeling uncomfortable and being triggered. The TW wasn't added because users felt uncomfortable. In addition to this I feel that it is necessary to stress that when you have a concern, you should go to a manager. Gossiping, mocking, being rude and creating callout posts are not okay, unhelpful and are also against the CGs. A lot of curators have voiced concerns about being ignored but this is because these situations aren't taken to a manager directly. "Directly" meaning onto one of our profiles or projects, if you would like privacy. We encourage this as it ensure that concerns are seen and responded to. In addition, many managers are okay with people contacting them offsite. It is extremely hard to address things when they are bashed onto us unconstructively on the main studio. Furthermore, if you have a suggestion, please bring it to the discussion studio. The discussion studio is a dedicated space for suggestions, questions and criticisms. It is not as active as the main studio so it will not be buried.
That's all! I hope that this helped. Any questions can be asked here or on any manager's profile. Make sure to be kind to each other and have a great day!
