I run after him. He disappears into the boy’s bathrooms and I wait outside. After half an hour, the break bell goes off. He doesn’t come out for a while and I begin to get worried. I slowly open the door. He was on the floor, pale. But breathing. I gasp and rush over to him. “Evelyn? This is a boy’s… woah.” Joshua stares at us. He sits next to me and checks Charlie’s pulse. I begin crying. “Get help.” I squeak. Joshua nods and runs out of the room. I hold Charlie’s hand. A teacher comes rushing in with Joshua. “Evelyn, I’m going to ask you to be really brave alright? Go and call an ambulance and wait outside okay?” The teacher says and opens the door. I nod, still crying and pull my phone out of my pocket. I type the phone number and tell the people on the other side of the call how he had fainted and gone pale… so suddenly. The ambulance was going to be here in minutes. When they arrive, they carry Charlie out on a stretcher. I follow them, bawling. “He has a high temperature and his breathing is raspy… we need to get him to the hospital quickly…” I hear a doctor’s voice and let out a sob. “Can I… Can I stay with him?” I croak to a kind looking driver. “Alright darling, he’s gonna be alright…” Her voice trails out. Almost unsure. I whimper and jump into the vehicle, holding his cold hand. I pray for him, I never do unless something bad happens. Please let him be alright. We arrive at the hospital ward, his parents are already there and hug me. “Darling…” His mum kisses my head and squeezes me. His dad gives me a small smile and my own parents rush over to me. “Evelyn… you’re so brave, darling.” My mum whispers and hugs me, my dad as well. The constant beeping of Charlie’s heart beat gives me a headache, but I’m staying here no matter what. I kept my hand on his, I had been for two hours. I look at the clock, five in the evening. For some reason though, I don’t feel tired. “Evelyn?” “Charlie!” I wipe my tears away and sit closer to him. “Have you been crying?” He chuckles weakly and coughs. “No-oo” I smile and squeeze his hand gently. “How are you feeling?” “Good I guess, I don’t know what happened. I just got really, really hot and felt sick…” I nod and look away, what was going to happen to him? “I’m okay, Evy.” He laughs. I nod and force a smile. “Good.” A doctor walks in. “Visiting hours are over.” She frowns at me. “Okay, bye Charlie. Hope you feel better soon.” I sigh and let go of his hand. I walk away and he suddenly grabs my hand, pulling me back. “Please, don’t leave, Evy.” He’s sad. The doctor smiles and looks at both of us. “Fine, your girlfriend can stay.” She pauses quickly. “I have some blankets in the cupboard just around the hall but don’t tell anyone I told you this.” She laughs. “Oh, we aren’t together.” I force a smile and a laugh. Charlie is slightly blushing on his pale face. “Really? Oh, well get the blankets when you’re tired.” She smiles and leaves. I let go of his grip and sat back down. “People keep saying we’re together…” Charlie chuckles, his voice trailing off. “Yeah, I mean you’re a great guy, but yeah we’re not together.” I laugh, blushing. “Yeah, I have feelings for someone already.” He smirks and turns away. My heart drops… wait, I think I have a crush on him… oh gosh. “Oh.” I say, sad. “Who?” He turns to face me again, “Someone who is kind, pretty, funny, a bit bossy.” He pauses and laughs weakly. “ And they devote their time to the ones they care for the most.” “Amellie?” I ask, trying not to cry. He stares at me weirdly. “No, but someone like that.” “Who then? Amellie’s the kindest person I know.” I frown, confused. “Ah, no there’s someone much kinder.” He sighs and sits up. “No, rest.” I’m worried for him. “I’m fine. I’m good.” He smiles. I nod. “Okay… Who?” I moan. “You.” He whispers and blushes. I blush, unable to speak. “Me?” I squeak slowly. “Yeah.” He yawns and falls asleep. “Goodnight.” I sigh quietly and walk out to get a blanket. There were lots…I grabbed two blue ones and walked back, covering myself in it. My phone pinged. Amellie: Where were you in class? And where was Charlie?? Joshua: You okay? How is Charlie? Mum: You okay sweet? Dad: How is he? They were all in different chats. I replied to them all and watched him breathe slowly. I was quickly asleep too. “Evy? Evelyn?” I opened my eyes slowly and saw Charlie standing over me. I jumped in surprise. He laughs. “Morning.” I croaked and fixed my hair, flattening it with my hands. “Charlie, do you actually like me?” I croak again and yawn. “Yeah, I do.” He whispers and stretches. “It’s ten by the way.” “Ten?” I exclaimed and checked my phone, thankfully there were no new messages. My parents didn’t spam me saying I had to get home… phew. I groaned and laid my head back on the surprisingly comfy chair. _________ thank uuu for readinggg <3 hope u liked this chapter !!!
