Note: {} indicates that this album has no skips {} Slint - Spiderland | Kentucky math rock / hardcore with some intricate guitar playing and drumming. I MISS YOUUUUUUUUU {} Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr. Skinny Fists like Antennas to Heaven! | D1 post-rock album that allowed me to enjoy drones. Made me cry several times, mostly during Monheim and Locks of Love Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space | Operatic space rock / shoegaze with 0 filler {} Pavement - Terror Twilight | Summery, warm indie rock w/ some country bits (produced by Nigel Godrich and features Jonny Greenwood on harmonica on "Platform Blues") {} Hum - You'd Prefer an Astronaut | Shoegazey metal / space rock album that sounds like Deftones Steel Pole Bath Tub - The Miracle of Sound in Motion | Minnesotan noise rock with some banger riffs. Guitarist in this band also composed music for a bunch of Valve games including TF2, CS:GO, Half Life, and Left 4 Dead (the 2nd track from this album is in L4D). {} My Bloody Valentine - Loveless | Irish shoegaze aged like whiskey. Only uses distortion pedals on here, by the way, no choruses or nothing! {} Big Black - Atomizer | BRUTAL noise rock (could also be counted as industrial maybe?) with 3 guys and a drum machine. Lotta dark subject matter in the songs. RIP Roland the drum machine. (Also, hot take: I prefer it over Songs About Effing) {} Being Dead - When Horses Would Run | Lowkey my favorite album of 2026 even though it came out in '23 {} Geese - Getting Killed | Hands down best album of this decade. God is real, I'm not kidding, God is actually real, I'm not kidding this time, I think God is actually for real. {} Q and Not U - No Kill No Beep Beep | DC math rock / emo band from the early-aughts with a great 3 album run before a breakup Drive Like Jehu - Self-titled | Math rock / post-hardcore album. Also check out Yank Crime by them Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream | Better than Mellon Collie {} Radiohead - The Bends / OK Computer | Both are peak {} The Jesus Lizard - Head | Real grimy Texan noise rock album produced by my goat Steve Albini {} System of a Down - Toxicity | Quite possibly the best nu metal album of all time? {} Yes - Fragile | Yes at their best. Goofy ahh prog rock with one of the best album openers ever. Even Five per Cent for Nothing slaps.
Shout out to music for existing, and shout out to sound in general for the same reason.
