CH 10 Annabeth “You already found something?” Annabeth asked, slightly out of breath. She had finished eating breakfast and was helping out some kids in the practice arena with dummies when Percy had run up to her, saying the elves had arrived; they had taken off toward the hill. After the elves had left Camp Half-Blood a day ago, Annabeth and Percy had scoured every book mentioning elves they could get their hands on, but found nothing Greek. The only other place it was mentioned was in a Norse book, but those elves all lived in Alfheim and were nothing like Sophie and Keefe. “They actually found it while we were here yesterday,” responded Sophie. As Annabeth got a better look at them, she could see there were more people than just Sophie and Keefe. What she had previously mistook for nymphs or tall bushes from a distance were actually five other people. There were two people- or elves, Annbaeth assumed- that were obviously siblings, with beautiful, rich brown hair and expensive-looking clothing. Two other elves also looked like siblings, with matching cream skin and black and silver hair. Next to them was a boy with strawberry blonde hair; finally, other than Sophie and Keefe, there was one other girl who had blonde hair with small braids. Percy beat her to it, “Who are they?” he asked, hand inching toward his sword. “Our faithful companions,” volunteered Keefe. The blonde girl with braids glared at him. Annabeth liked her. “Sorry, we didn’t warn you,” said Sophie, “but I promise they are no threat.” This did not seem to relax Percy. “Why are they here then?” he asked, feigning casualness. “Well, we actually found something we think might lead to Peírama. With this information, and many people with different abilities, we hoped to end this today. The world ending because we gave her too much time wouldn’t be the greatest.” “Abilities?” “Well, like we mentioned a little bit before, elves all have abilities. I-” “Foster has them all. Shes like a five-in-one,” said Keefe. “I do not have them all. I just have more than most people. Basically, I can speak all languages, teleport, read minds, inflict pain, and enhance other people’s powers.” Annabeth backed away unconsciously. If this girl could make people feel pain barely lifting a finger, Annabeth did not want to be near her. “Keefe,” Sophie continued, “can feel others’ feelings, Tam controls shadows-” “We have a buddy like that, too,” said Percy, referring to Nico. “Marella controls fire, Bianca can turn invisible, Fitz reads minds, and Linh controls water.” “Which one is Linh, again?” asked Percy. The girl with black and silver hair raised her hand, and Percy high-fived her. “I can control water too! Water-controller solidarity.” “There does seem to be many similarities between demigod and elf powers,” Annabeth agreed. "A son of Hades we know can control shadows, some kids of Hepheastus control fire, and as Percy said, he controls water. However, no demigods I know of read minds, turn invisible, inflict pain, or teleport. Speaking of, are either of you, like, reading minds right now? Or like, can you turn it off?” The brown-haired boy shook his head, “It is illegal for us to abuse our powers. I could technically read your mind right now, but that would be highly disrespectful and against the rules.” Annabeth nodded, but this bothered her more than she voiced. Her mind was her only power as a daughter of Athena, and if that could be used against her, she was as useless as she had been to Luke and Thailia when she was 7. “So,” Keefe began, “just making sure I got it all, we are super cool elves, Percy here is like Linh, mind-reading is a no-no, and we should hurry and get to the base before the World ends and all.” “You're right,” said Annabeth, clearing her mind, “we have already wasted enough time talking, we need to go and get a plan. What’s this clue you found?” (side note from me, did yk the world clue comes from the minotaur and thesus myth be the ball of yarn in greek was “clew” and it lead him through the maze? English eventually adopted the word as clue, meaning somthing to help you solve a problem) “It was a small flower drawing we found in Sophie's memory-” explained the brown-haired girl “/You/ found in /Sophie’s/ memory?” asked Percy. “Elf thing. But we asked the gnomes, and they said it can only be found in one place. The British overseas territory?” Annabeth internally groaned. “It will take forever to get there. Percy here has a bit of a grudge with Zeus- that's the king sky god guy- so we can’t fly.” “Um, the jumping in light thingy?” suggested Keefe. Oh yeah. That. It shook Annabeth up the last time they did it; she could feel her body dissolving and barely coming back. But if it was the only way… “Light jumping, it is. Just let me Iris message Chiron so we don’t disappear on him.”
