A totally uncalled-for act of violence has just occurred as the largest humanitarian flight out of Jinzhao so far—Mercy 8813—was illegally shot down while carrying over 800 Jinzhaoii refugees out of the warzone. The massive IL-76 aircraft, operating under strict humanitarian protocols and clearly marked as a peacekeeping aircraft, was completely packed with innocent families desperately trying to escape the violence in the region when it was targeted. Rescue operations are to commence soon to save any survivors before hostiles can get their hands on them. The horrific incident took place over contested territory held by the Jinzhaoii Ultra-Nationalist militia. The peacekeeping flight met disaster when the IL-76 Mercy 8813 sustained heavy damage after a surface-to-air missile struck it, tearing through its massive airframe. In addition, half of its left wing was snapped off, and one of its critical engines was disabled while the other caught fire and was stuck at 50% throttle. Thick, black smoke trailed from the aircraft as it fought to remain airborne. Following the sudden attack, the highly experienced Captain Abdullah Hasan, with over 10,000 flight hours, declared an imminent emergency—radioing air traffic control to request an emergency landing at the nearest viable airport outside of Jinzhaoii territory, trying to protect the hundreds of terrified, vulnerable refugees in his care. However, all hope for a miracle was cut short. A second SAM slammed into the IL-76's vertical stabilizer, causing the plane to spiral down uncontrollably. The APU was also taken out, leaving the plane running on only two engines, while Hasan's First Officer, Muhammad Ibraheem, was knocked unconscious by the force of the blast. Abdullah Hasan's window also shattered upon impact, sending glass shards that blinded his left eye and tore through his ear, though he was able to remain tethered to his seat and control the plane somewhat. His navigator, however, wasn't so lucky. When the plane took the hit, the force of the blast caused him to sustain severe concussions, skull fractures, and hematomas, according to flight records. As the only one left to control the plane, along with his flight engineer, Mahram Kumar, Hasan attempted to steer toward the OCCP for a final gambit. Still, it proved futile, as the plane was nearly impossible to steer, and ultimately, at around 3:15 PM today, it crashed in Rheia, location unknown, killing most of the 876 passengers and all 6 crew on board. Additionally, 3 more planes were fired on over JUNF territory, with one crashing within Jinzhao, leaving 304 refugees and 3 crew members missing. Meanwhile, the other damaged planes thankfully managed to land safely in friendly territory (Tankavik and Bhahsania, respectively). Bhahsania is aggrieved and outraged by the shootdowns, as Sheikh Anuq Shariq is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting with Bhahsani officials to discuss rescue plans and next steps, with Soviet officials also invited, as the Jinzhaoii conflict rages on.
