Hey everybody, Star here! I've noticed that lately, a lot of people on Scratch have been getting mad at 'ST', whether that be for unfair comment bans or wrongfully taking down projects. And that's totally fair! But here's the thing: Most comment bans are not done by humans. They are not done by ST. They are done by an algorithm. Think about it. There are thousands of accounts on Scratch. Some of those accounts post as many as 100 comments a day. It would take hundreds of people to constantly monitor all of that and make sure no one steps out of line or posts anything inappropriate. So instead, ST programmed an algorithm. The algorithm most likely is trained to look for certain key words or phrases. This includes swears, slurs, and suggestive phrases. But the algorithm probably /isn't/ trained to look at the context. For example, I've been comment banned on multiple occasions for saying things that, within the context of the entire sentence, are entirely appropriate, but the algorithm only sees one or two words that could be interpreted as harmful and automatically gives me a comment ban. So, why am I saying all this? What's the point? The point is this: stop being upset with ST. They are trying their best to keep the kids who use this site safe, and sometimes, that means unintentionally giving innocent people comment bans. But would you rather have a bunch of creeps hanging around unchecked or occasionally get wrongfully comment banned for a couple of minutes? I don't know about you guys, but I'd gladly take the latter.
tldr: stop being upset with ST for comment banning you because A.) it's not ST it's an algorithm, and B.) it's not their fault they're just trying to keep everyone safe. Sorry for ranting, it's just something that's been bothering me!
