Chapter 1: “Years Are Short, Days Are Long” Gretchen Rubin said that. “The days are long, but the years are short.” That is not true through my looking glass. After eating breakfast, on that treacherous day, I sat down on the sofa and so did Butler and Nanny. They spoke in a low voice and gave me a short letter. Dear Aurelia, Me and your father are so ashamed to inform you that, because of a great opportunity, we will be gone for another 2 years. Butler & Nanny will still be there to help you. To make it up to you though, we sent a little something. Sincerely Sorry, Mom and Dad Tears strolled down my eyes. Through postcards and letters, me and my mother planned an entire summer of trips, hikes and fun. We planned to go to the lake on June 15th and invite 3 of our friends. None of that will happen. Not for at least for another two years. I felt as if a piece of me was missing. Something was wrong. Nanny was soaked in tears. Her eyes were red but she still remained calm. “Go see what your parents got you. It is in the guest room. They hope you treasure it forever.” I tore out of the living room and ran to the guest room. Inside there was a little german shepherd puppy. He had big blue eyes and fluffy fur. He had a little blue collar that matched his eyes. There was also a little box on the bed. Curious, I opened the box. There were tree seeds and another letter. I did not want to open the letter. It probably said something like “Change of plans! We are staying for the rest of your life! Have fun!” I decided I would go up to my tree, and read it. NEXT TO BE ADDED Previous: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1321807612/
