☆ I’m working on a project that is meant to guide series creators on how to find and manage voice actors. I’m not a VA myself (edit - that may not be true anymore) so I would like some information from that perspective! ☆ ☆ Below is a survey of 15 questions that relate to voice acting. It’d be appreciated if you remixed this project with your answers! If there’s questions you don’t want to answer, that’s fine! ☆ ❀ Q - (Not part of the survey) Would you like your answers to be credited (if so, to what username?) or would you like to remain anonymous? ❀ A - saturnpaw_ ❀ Q - How long have you been voice acting? ❀ A - since 5 years ago, maybe? I took a long break in between though and am getting back into it ❀ Q - How do you most frequently find a series to audition for? ❀ A - through studios (e.g. open voice auditions) ❀ Q - What makes you choose to click a casting call? ❀ A - to be very frank its often the thumbnail ❀ Q - After viewing a casting call, what makes you decide whether or not you want to audition for it? ❀ A - there are specific genres that I tend to avoid a lil, such as horror. I also feel the vibes of the project, and whether or not there is a suitable part. occasionally, if there are too many auditions already I don’t audition lol ❀ Q - What is something (or multiple things) that will make you immediately choose not to audition for something? ❀ A - If I get a sense that this project will prolly be discontinued (surprisingly many of these VA projects DO get cancelled) ❀ Q - What component(s) make a casting call (not someone’s audition) high quality? ❀ A - detailed requirements and rules so I know what exactly the project is about instead of some generic descriptions. proof that effort has already been put into the planning stage of the process. A nice thumbnail is not necessary but definitely a plus! ❀ Q - What do you like to know about a series you’re considering auditioning for? ❀ A - when the results come out, what format will this project take on, description of the voice they are looking for, will there be another batch of auds? ❀ Q - Do you like to have a visual of the characters? ❀ A - yes!!! while it doesn’t really affect the audition, its always great to see the artsyle for the upcoming project ❀ Q - What is important to include in a character’s voice description? ❀ A - age range (which is not present SO often), voice range (high-low), and what would be helpful would be a brief desc after the lines (e.g. <happy>) ❀ Q - What’s your favorite kind of character to voice act or audition for? ❀ A - I like any and all characters, the variety is exciting! However, I find voice acting for younger characters easier as I have a higher voice ❀ Q - What should a casting call include? ❀ A - characters, deadlines, rules, form, important info on the project ❀ Q - What do you want to know about the character(s) you’re auditioning for? ❀ A - gender, personality, BRIEF background ❀ Q - Is it important for a casting call to be high quality and why or why not? ❀ A - it matters to me, but generally its not as important as it seems. people will audition either ways, but its easier on both the host (to avoid too many questions) and auditionee (for clarity) ❀ Q - What is the best way for a series creator to give you lines you need to record? ❀ A - Through a project, but usually all ways are fine unless its off-Scratch ❀ Q - What would you want the creator of a series to know about when it comes to VAs? ❀ A - work ethic, priorities, time limits, and whether I will need an extension ☆ That’s all the questions, thank you so much for doing this survey! ☆
