Description of aircraft by me: The English Electric Lightning was a supersonic Cold War interceptor jet plane. The early concept for the extraordinary aircraft occurred upon W.E.W. Petter in 1947 and soon became in production 13 years later in 1960. The top speeds of this plane were astounding and so ahead of its time, reaching speeds up to 1,300 mph (2,100 kph) breaking the sound barrier! The Lightning served a good use to the Royal Air Force (RAF) between 1963 and 1971 and especially some periods of the Cold War. This was certainly the fastest climbing aeroplane of its time doing 50,000 ft per minute and could reach 60,000 ft in only about a minute! Unfortunately, the legendary jet ceased to be use to the RAF in around 1988 and in 2004 was deemed too dangerous and was banned from flying anywhere in the world. A truly mementos aircraft with an underwhelming send off.
