"Phoenix's Lament" written in a form of poetry called a pantoum Because I was born from the end of a smoking gun, I awakened chewing ash and spitting flame. I strike a lighter on life and inhale its screams Exhaling silence, blowing out dreams. I was awakened chewing ash and spitting flame Having forgotten, but having not been redeemed Exhaling silence, blowing out dreams I desire to be known and to be seen. Having forgotten, but having not been redeemed My heart pumps echoes instead of blood I desire to be known and to be seen As a symbol of redeath rather than rebirth. My heart pumps echoes instead of blood Certain that I must have deserved to burn As a symbol of redeath rather than rebirth, Each gifted breath feels heavy and unearned. Certain that I must have deserved to burn I strike a lighter on life and inhale its screams Each gifted breath feels heavy and unearned Because I was born from the end of a smoking gun.
