Title: "RSD: The severe emotional impact it can have on someone's life" This project was made to spread awareness about Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, or RSD for short. Basic Info --------------------------------------------- RSD is closely linked to symptoms of severe emotional dysregulation, although it is not considered an official diagnosis or medical condition. People with RSD commonly experience emotional breakdowns, anxiety, and nervousness. What triggers RSD? --------------------------------------------- RSD can be triggered by numerous things, but by far the most common is rejection. Someone may tell a person with RSD to "leave them alone" or to "go away" or they say "I don't like it when you do that." Someone with RSD might interpret this as "I hate you." or "I can't stand to be around you." This commonly leads to distancing, breakdowns, and strong emotional feelings. My experience with RSD --------------------------------------------- I am River, and I have RSD. My experience with RSD has changed me a lot. An example that really happened: I was on Scratch making particularly nasty comments that I didn't mean to be nasty. After someone else told me to stop, I went onto the person's profile, and commented asking if this was okay. They clarified they didn't like it, and in my brain I read this as "I don't like you. I cannot stand to be around you." As I was commenting one could tell I was clearly shaken, and that night I was barely able to sleep. I won't go into much more detail. RSD can be severe, and you have to recognize the patterns. How to tell if someone is having a breakdown --------------------------------------------- RSD can be different for everyone, and nobody is exactly the same, so take this with a grain of salt. People with RSD typically apologize excessively after making a mistake, might seem upset or shaky after someone told them off, or they might be having a breakdown over a small situation. Recognizing these patterns and helping the person experiencing these can seriously help. Common Misconceptions --------------------------------------------- RSD is closely associated with neurodivergent traits, like ADHD, although not everybody with RSD has experienced these traits. Thank you for reading. I really hope this spreads plenty of awareness about RSD and I hope others can seek help if they have RSD.
