Chapter 10 I find myself at tallgrass, but it's different. There are more stars in the sky than I've ever seen before. I see Echosight waiting for me. “Echosight! Where have you been?” I'm relieved to see her, but something isn’t right. “I have been near, but you could not see me. I knew it would interfere with your mission. Spiritclan has given me the full prophecy.” Echosight’s eyes glaze over, but they still seem to glitter with all the stars of the sky. “The one who hurts The one who listens The one who loves The one who glistens The bleeding The dying The choking The ones who struggle to thrive Find the hope and find the cure Or none of the clans will survive” I wake up slowly, repeating the prophecy over and over in my head. The one who hurts… the one who listens… the one who loves… the one who glistens? What does it mean? “Hey aspenpaw. It's time to head out!” Ash pokes his head in with a bundle of travel herbs tucked under his chin. “Alright. I’m coming.” I stretch out of the hollow and let my eyes adjust to the dim light. I grab my herbs and quickly swallow them. Ash takes a bit more time. “Yuck! How do you stand these?” He wrinkles his nose at the bitter taste. “I’m a healer. I’m used to it.” I respond coolly. We let Horizon know we are leaving, then we trot out of the camp. Ash stops once the camp is out of sight. “So where now?” He looks at me expectantly. I raise my muzzle to the sky and take in the scent of the wind. “North.” I open my eyes and a purple haze appears, indicating which direction is north. I trot at a steady pace, eager to get on the journey. Maybe Echosight will show herself again. Almost as if she was summoned, Echosight’s spirit comes barreling towards them. “AAUURG! ENEEMYYY!” Ash springs forward, but his paws close on empty grass. “Echosight! Were you… in the bushes?” I look towards the brush she came out of, and the twigs in her fur. Even though she's dead, she can still manage to get messy. “Echosight? Aspenpaw, WHAT is going on.” Ash looks so confused, I can’t help but laugh out loud. “This is Echosight, my friend. She… she recently joined spiritclan… but she’s here to help us, don’t worry!” Ash’s confusion turns to more confusion, then he processes what I just said. “OH! Okay! Well, should we keep going?” He picks up the bundle he was carrying. “Okay. Lets go.” The three of us fall in step and head North, glowing in the first light of dawn.
