After the Leaders of Malawi and Zambia had a summit in Lusaka. they agreed that the only way to stop Rhodesia from existing is that they must invade Rhodesia. Mozambique refused to directly enter the conflict yet but did agree to fund and send lend lease to the Defence Force of Zambia and to the Malawian Defence Force. The Rhodesian Security Forces who was already prepared started a counter-offensive a couple days after the main Zambian offensive but unexpectedly ZAPU revolted in the east, causing a surprise 2nd front.
