May 22, 2026 at 3:05 PM Richard Childress Racing announced Friday that the organization will suspend use of the No. 8 Chevrolet following the passing of Kyle Busch. Beginning with this weekend’s race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the team will compete with the No. 33 and plans to continue using that number moving forward. Busch played a major role in the creation and design of RCR’s modern stylized No. 8, which quickly became closely associated with the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion during his time with the team. “No one can carry it forward to the level that he did,” the organization stated. RCR also said that the No. 8 will remain reserved for Busch’s son, Brexton Busch, should he one day choose to pursue a NASCAR career.
