Sage walked back to camp with Scorpio, dragging a deer behind them. “Look, children,” she exclaimed. “I have brought you some nutrient-rich food! It has a lot of protein.” She gestured to them with her tail. “Come sit. I must teach you some things before we eat.” Sage remembered when her mother taught her this lesson, all those-wait- 2 or 3 seasons ago! “So children,” she continued, “I felled this deer to feed our family. Wolves do not k1ll for pleasure, for d3@th is a great price, and should not be caused unnecessarily. It removes a living, breathing creature off the face of the earth.” Sage wasnt sure whether they were old enough to understand and not be tr@um@t1z3d, but whatever. They’d survive. “So only pr3y when your family is hungry. And use every bit of m3@t to sustain you, never let ANYTHING go to waste.” She drew her claws across the ground, scraping an indent into the soil to emphasize the word. “One day, you will pass this knowledge on to your own young. Treasure it, and remember, for it may save you in your darkest days.” She looked at the tiny souls seriously before bouncing up and skipping toward the edge of camp. “We have a bit more to learn. Follow me.” She bounded out of the clearing with 4 little shapes behind her. Soon, they had reached a small meadow not too far away that was teeming with mice. Sage paused for a second, pressing her ear to the earth. Then she straightened up and majestically leaped onto a patch of soil, tail upright. Nothing happened. Sage stepped back to the ground by the puppies and pressed her ear to the ground again, and this time stealthily stalked and then pounced, digging up an underground den full of mice. They tried to run, but had no chance. Sage bit one quickly, sn@pp1ng the spine. She trotted over to her babies with the mouse. “I ended this mouse’s life quickly. It felt no p@1n. If you prolong the d3@th of a creature, it will not taste like food, but bark, or soil. So we never cause it p. This mouse gave its life to sustain us, as one day we will d13 too and give life to the ravens. It is an endless cycle.” ________________Give Response Here________________ Sage showed them how to pounce. “See, you can practice these in your games. Try to catch a mouse.” She let them *try hunting* by cutting the mouse’s escape and letting the pups make the k1ll1ng blow. _________________Give Response Here_______________ “Let’s go back to camp. I bet Scorpio and Sunrise will be so proud of you. Such strong little wolves. And we can have deer.” The pups perked up and followed Sage back to camp, where she divided their shares up evenly. “Enjoy, my darlings,” she woofed softly as she watched them eat.
