PROLOGUE: “Don’t do it!” The sudden order made her gasp, but she listened. She dropped the thorn on the floor, nearly hitting her foot. She looked around to find nothing except one rose and one thorn. Who was it? Why couldn’t she follow the orders to pick one thorn? Why was it that everyone seemed to destroy her moment? It could’ve been her chance to stand under the spotlight. But, no. Everything destroyed her chance. It was as if someone was possessing her. And that someone was nothing.
CHAPTER 1: A strange dream woke Rose up. She was a rose waiting for her thorns to be removed. Why was it always her? It’s the same dream, every night she rests. Every night since she was three, the year she got pricked by a thorn. Was she being punished by Earth? She would never know. She could only guess. Rose glanced at her alarm-clock to see that it was nearly ten o’clock. She overslept on the most important day of her life. It was the day of her first ever assignment. Whenever a child turns 11, they get a special assignment. If you weren’t careful with it, someone might end up taking over your life. Though that rarely happened, Rose still had her jittery moths. Would she be the “different” one? She wouldn’t know until she did. … It was her time. She needed to step up on that stage and wait until she was chosen. In her world, every person had someone to guide them. It was still Earth, but at the same time, it was different. Things were the opposite for humans. Their time, their language, and definitely their lifestyle. Humans had things called phones and toaster ovens. Humans were clumsy and not super smart in their decisions. Fairies, though the name is silly, are smart, live naturally, and aren’t clumsy. Everyone except Rose. Everyone calls her, “Mistakable Thorn”. She was kind of clumsy and was into humans. Rose shook her thoughts away. It was time. Her rulers were calling with the flowers. She needed to step up on that stage and wait. Waiting could be a minute or months before she found out. Rose bet that everyone thought that she would be waiting for years. But no, as soon as she stepped on the stage, a sparkle coated her and Iris, her cousin.
