Over time, the winds have shifted such that the name ‘Caribbean Federation’ no longer feels suited to the American giant. While geographically centred around the Caribbean, the nation’s wings spread as far as the Canadian tundra and the Brazilian shore. And despite the nation’s federal and heavily devolved governmental structure, politicians in less ‘Caribbean’ areas have criticised the ‘Caribbean’ identity of the nation as the emblem of a manipulative bureaucracy in Havana which seeks to encroach on regional interests. A series of territorial acquisitions had served to make the Caribbean nation less and less ‘Caribbean’, making the identity feel out of place. Then the Pan-American movement, which had been largely forgotten just before WW7, started to regain serious traction. With the defeat of the Dominion, the main obstacle for American unification lost much of its fighting vigour. And with the Caribbean now as the most powerful nation on Earth by some estimates, Pan-Americanists saw the country in a primal position to spearhead a unification of the Americas, and eventually of Sol itself. Pan-American pressure groups started to manifest across the country, dictating attitudes in the political landscape; several major political blocs opted to side with them, seeing it electorally beneficial. So, the necessity of a rebranding became all the more essential. Regional identities wanted a name that would not disregard them, and Pan-Americanists wanted a name that would encompass the entire Americas. After long and intensive discussions both in government and on the streets, the name ‘New World Federation’ was chosen and heralded on 16th July 2415 as the new name of the country. Also as part of the rebranding, the old Caribbean flag, now in use for almost half a century, was replaced with the flag of the Solar League - the Flower of Sol on a white pale, with two stripes (gules and azure respectively) at the left side of the flag. Both of these rebranding also carry heavy implications of planned Solar unification. The name ‘New World Federation’ can be interpreted not only as the archaic term for the Americas, but the first step to a new ‘World Federation’ in the near future. The Flower of Sol, bearing 6 petals for each major continent (the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australasia and Antarctica) has also long been used as a symbol for world unification, having served as the emblem of the Solar League.
