Training Sable [] Upd. 070 [] Golden Pastures [] Today, I took Sable out to the arena. Since his arrival to Golden Pastures, he has inpproved very well. He has moved into his stall, he is mostly comfortable with human interaction, and he has became accustomed to stuff like the hose spraying(NOT ON HIM), the stall doors jiggling, and so much more. So far, he loves carrots and apples, but he does seem to chew on the stall quite a bit. Today, I thought would be a good day to introduce him to tack. He is halter trained, but he is very sensitive to pulling, and needs some time to adjust until he's ready to graduate from loopy lead ropes, to normal leading. I tied him up, and brought out a saddle and saddle pad. He nosed it carefully then hit the middle spot a little hard, spooked, and reared. I stepped back to allow him to recuperate and then came forward again. He calmed down, so I walked around him, gently touching the saddle to his sides. He relaxed, so I continued. Then, on each side, I put it up to the top of his back, while not putting it on his back. Then, I brought out the girth and tapped it to his girth and heart girth. He had no reacation, so I brought out out last item. The Bug-B-Gone wipes. He sniffed them and didn't mind them, so I began gently wiping his legs. Hopefully, in the next session, he will be able to get more desensitization finished and then move on the wearing the tack. He did very well today and has definetly gottten comfortable! Except for a few, reminders! He is a bit ansy with people still, but is getting better every day!
