DPDR stands for Depersonalization-Derealization Disorder. It is a mental health condition characterized by persistent feelings of being detached from one's own body or mind (depersonalization) and/or feeling that the external world is unreal, foggy, or distorted (derealization). The Two ComponentsDepersonalization: Feeling like an outside observer of your own thoughts, feelings, or body. People often describe feeling like a robot, watching a movie of their life, or feeling emotionally numb. Derealization: Experiencing the world as unreal, dreamlike, or artificial. Surroundings may seem distorted, two-dimensional, or foggy. Y DPDR can feel like it happens completely randomly, but scientifically, it is almost always triggered by underlying biological or psychological factors.About 50% of people with chronic DPDR experience a sudden, acute onset out of nowhere, while the other half notice it developing gradually. When it strikes suddenly, it usually comes down to hidden triggers or biological vulnerabilities.
