12/2415 The NASM, in cooperation with Antarctica, has recently managed to complete the flooding of a large portion of the inland Outback in Australia, dubbing the new body of water the “Victorian Sea”. This new body of water has also created a new strait, which will henceforth be referred to as the Outback Strait. This new sea was created to solve food shortages in Antarctica, and will serve as the basis for further re-forestry and restoration missions. The population had already been evacuated prior to the flooding, and thanks to support from the NASM, radiation had been largely cleansed from the area as was necessary. Overall, this new sea will serve as a major economic backbone of Australia and will provide many new opportunities. Hailrh. HOW To fill such a large area, a large amount of water was needed. Thankfully, the NASM has very large amounts of water at all times due to their presence on Neptune, and with their recently developed Low Orbit WR Tom Cruisers, the NASM was able to transport vast amounts of water from Neptune via Worm Rips to the surface of Australia. Dams and blockades had also been set up by Antarctica prior to prevent flooding in unwanted areas and to keep the Sea contained, as well as to form the Outback Strait itself for strategic purposes. Several water reserves from permafrost in Antarctica were also used for the finishing touches, specifically the more precise areas of flooding. Regardless, the NASM has also reactivated certain factories and production centers in the Outback so that Antarctica may develop their own fleet. Hailrh. WHY The NASM wishes to improve relations with Antarctica and also wishes to create a very stable food source. Although the NASM already has very reliable food sources and largely exists in post-scarcity, one famine could endanger the lives of hundreds of millions of people, so it was thought that oversecurity was better than being sorry. The NASM will continue to assist Antarctica in similar but smaller projects in the future to deepen relations and grow their blossoming friendship. Hailrh. (Also, yes the areas that the Victorian Sea are in are very low elevation so flooding would be very easy given the ease of access the NASM has to waters, it may just take a while for it all to pour out.)
