Here we are again, this time at the third chapter! If you don't already know, People of the Lost Cities is a fanfic story of Keeper of the Lost Cities. If you haven't read the KotLC series, I would highly recommend checking it out from the library and reading it before you continue scrolling. It will help you understand the setting/culture (and prevent spoilers!), which will be a big help to you. Also, if you haven't read the previous PotLC chapters, you should do that. First: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1321736922/ Previous: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1322258835/ And I believe that's it; onto the story! Chapter 3: Matthew Matthew was a tad confused. Not super confused, mind you, just a tad. Like how the ocean has a tad of water. So, first there were these random we¡rdos who took Lily; then his memories (and his parents' memories) got wiped by said we¡rdos; then Atlantis secretly had a huge library the whole time; and then finally, Lily was somewhere in the Forbidden Cities? With humans? None of it made sense. Plus, Matthew had tons of questions! Starting with: "But aren't the Forbidden Cities huge?" Atlantis nodded. "Like, MEGA huge. I read somewhere that one city could have the same amount of people living in it as there are elves in the Vacker family." "Whoa." Rhian's eyes widened at the prospect. "That's, like, HUGE." "That's what I just said," Atlantis said crossly. "Uhh," Matthew interceded, before an argument could start, "so... Where are we supposed to look? And also how?" Atlantis snapped her book shut, beaming. "WONDERFUL question! I was thinking we could look in a book!" Matthew stared at her. "I get that you have a big library, but I doubt there's a book titled 'Places Creepy We¡rdos Who Kidnapped Your Twin Sister Could Have Light–'" "Of course we're not looking in a book," Atlantis interrupted, rolling her eyes. "The first thing we're doing is telling your parents, because it's obvious they'd want to know that all their memories of their daughter were wiped. Also they're responsible adults who could tell someone in charge, who might actually be able to rescue Lily." "Wha- No way!" Matthew sputtered. "If we tell them, then we won't get to do any of the rescuing! I want to help rescue her!" "Going to an adult is out of the question," Rhian agreed. "You're ridiculous." Atlantis rolled her eyes again. "So, what? We just walk up to someone in charge, ask them, 'hey, can you let us into the Registry,' and then ask the people at the Registry, 'hey, can we check where Matthew's sister's registry pendant says she is because we think she was kidnapped and brought to the Forbidden Cities?' I'm sure every step of that plan will work, especially the part where they let a few nine-year-olds into the Registry." Matthew could see her point. "Well..." Rhian said slowly, "I was thinking... If it was that easy to fix Matthew's memories without even knowing what to do, maybe I could just... Look for Lily? With my mind?" Atlantis thought for a moment, then asked, "Like, just call out with your thoughts and see if she answers? I guess that might work, if she's nearby. So even if that works, and we figure out where she is so we can get her, how do we actually... GET her?" "If only we could borrow a blue pathfinder," Matthew sighed, "but no one would ever allow it." "I could take my dad's," Rhian offered immediately. His friends stared at him. Atlantis shook her head vigorously. "No way! You would definitely get caught, and then how are we supposed to rescue Lily?"
"I could get Fade to do it, instead," Rhian suggested. "He just manifested as a Vanisher a few weeks ago. It's perfect." Matthew racked his brain, trying to remember. Fade was Rhian's cousin, right? Wasn't his real name Fadriel, or something? "Well, we can figure all that out later," Matthew decided. "Right now, Rhian, just focus on trying to find Lily." "Right." Rhian closed his eyes, and the three friends fell silent. It was very boring. Matthew had no idea how much time had passed, but it felt like forever. It must not have been very long, however, because Matthew could still see the sun out of the window when Rhian said, "Wait–I think I've got something!" Now, I know you're probably wanting the next chapter already, and guess what? You're in for a treat! Chapter 4 is almost done! It was going to be in this project also, but I ran out of room. (Also sorry there was no special thumbnail, I was a little rushed) Now let's see, credits! Me for the characters and story and such Shannon Messenger for the original KotLC series
