❝ You were everything... you are everything ❞ . . . The house was quiet. The fire crackled behind her as the feline settled in her favorite spot in the center of the warm, soft carpet. It was safe. But this nap was different. As her breathing slowed, the world seemed to fade. A comforting silence settled over her. . . . A canine came to her side, joining her in her last moments. He was always near, never straying too far even on her adventures. He was one of the only friends she had for a while. The canine sat there beside his sleeping friend, looking solemn, as though he already knew she would not wake. . . . Usually, she would have jumped up immediately when the scent of their love had grown near. But she stayed still, not stirring even when the loner came closer. The feline may have said her name, but she wouldn't have heard it. . . . When her housefolk arrived home, they called out her name. But Odelia stayed still, already in a place they were not ready to accept. It had been coming for a while, they knew, but still they wept. She was the last of their cats to leave. . . . ❝ Dominic will watch over them... I needn't worry ❞
Odelia is one of my characters who I had so much planned for, and yet it never really happened. She lived a good life. And, before anyone asks about her afterlife, I will talk about it. Odelia wasn't a believer of StarClan or the Dark Forest. She never understood or knew of their existence until her spouse had introduced the idea to her, and I believe it is right for there to not be a place she goes after death. Thank you to those who were such important pieces to her life and development as a character The title is based on her theme song, Fame is a Gun. I found it fitting, because she lived a very glamorous life with her rich Twolegs, but also saw her life with Timelessparadox as glamorous and beautiful (she loves her spouse ok?) [ this next part is more about how she died, so please take precautions if stuff relating to heart failure and pet death triggers you <3 ] . . . It also felt right to not make her death be as dramatic as I may have otherwise made it. She was a merchant with a bold personality, but her later years were quiet and relaxing. Housecats tend to hide away when they're dying, though I think Odelia would have gone to her favorite place when her housefolk were out of the house and left peacefully. Her cause of death was technically elder rolls, though I was already planning on killing her off before this, and heart failure is what I had chosen to take her. It's unfortunately quite common for older cats to have the condition known as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, one of the leading causes of heart failure for older cats. Odelia was a loved cat by those who knew her, and I'd like to give a special mention to Timelessparadox, who was her spouse, and Carambolabloom, who was her closest and probably only friend at the time of her death
