TW for violence & mentions of blood (not descriptive)!! Truffle struggled to catch his breath despite his relatively slow pace. He had been feeling unusually tired lately, likely due to his leg deep wound that had opened up again. He stopped and sat down to rest for a while. He knew with his injury he shouldn’t even be up, but he had taken a walk every day for most of his life and felt restless being deprived of his routine. He had dragged himself from the medicine den and started along his usual trail in the forest, but now regretted it. Truff started back for camp, hoping it wasn’t as far as he remembered, until a growl behind him made his head snap back around. He knew even before he saw the matted fur or smelled its horrible breath that he was being preyed on by a wolf. Several had been roaming the territory for about a quarter moon, and he had yet to encounter one. What should he do? He couldn’t go back to camp with a wolf on his tail and risk the safety of his clanmates. He had to be a warrior, so he turned to his enemy and did just that. He slashed his claws across the wolf’s muzzle, but he landed awkwardly and overbalanced, landing on his bad leg with a screech of pain. He scrambled painfully up an oak tree and laid in a branch for a moment. He felt his energy draining away, and knew if he came back he wouldn’t make it home alive. Setting his eyes on the wolf, he felt a rush of panic as he saw it heading for camp. /It’s following my scent trail!/ he realized. With a screech of fury, Truffle launched himself onto the wolf, ignoring the pain of impact as he hit its back. /I can't let it get back to my clanmates!/ The two creatures howled in pain as he scored his claws down the wolf’s back. The wolf turned around to look at him and snapped at his neck, throwing him off... ~ Truffle collapsed on the ground. He staggered to his paws and retreated to the shade of a thick tree. The wolf was gone and had not found the camp, confused by the bl00d-scent. It had left a deep gash in Truffle's neck, and his leg had begun to bleed again. /Thank you for this chance, Starclan./ he thought as he curled up awkwardly. /I'm glad I got to live... and go down fighting for my clan.../ He sighed, wondering what could have been. If he hadn't been alone all the time... if his family had survived, or he had tried harder to find a mate... But none of that mattered now. He would see them all again soon. He closed his eyes and fell still for the last time... - -- - -- - Truffleswirl, 24 moons February 18, 2026 - May 23, 2026 My first child in Generations is gone!!
