The Pulmonoscorpius measured around 13-280 millimeters (33⁄64 inches), with large individuals measuring 70 centimeters (2 feet 39⁄16 inches); the weight is unknown, although it was likely the weight of a cat-sized predator. Being one of the largest scorpions in history, thanks to the Carboniferous oxygen levels, its large venomous stinger was used to subdue small prey due to its small pincers, although it didn't adapt to subdue mammals, as they had not yet evolved. As the name suggests, the Pulmonoscorpius utilized book lungs containing stacked, leaf-like, air-filled lamellae facilitating gas exchange. This meant that it was adapted to breathe air within its diurnal lifestyle, having a similar respiratory system to modern scorpions.
