The troll was stopped easily by Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick's combined Stunning Charm. Harry and Ron kept talking about how it would have been fun to try and get in on the action and be a part of stopping the troll, and although she may or may not secretly agree with them, Hermione was glad they didn't do that, since they most likely would have got in trouble. Hermione, Harry, and Ron were becoming worse and worse enemies with Draco Malfoy. Hermione, on the other hand, thought Malfoy seemed pretty nice, and she had a suspicion that Draco liked her. Harry and Ron thought so too, but they were less curious and more frustrated with Draco. Hermione didn't know exactly how she felt about Malfoy... until one night that changed everything. . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. One morning, at breakfast, a large package was delivered to Harry from Professor McGonagall, saying "Do not open at Table." After long pleads from Hermione to listen to the Transfiguration teacher's advice, the trio decided to bring the parcel to the Gryffindor tower and then open it. Unfortunately, another group of three friends were standing right in their way. Draco Malfoy snatched the parcel right out of Harry's hand. "That's not an ordinary delivery... its a broomstick. Oh, you'll be in big trouble now Potter! Broomsticks aren't allowed for first years, I-" He was interrupted by Ron, "Yeah, and it's not just any ordinary broomstick! It's a Nimbus 2000, given to Harry straight from McGonagall herself." After a bit more of arguing and bickering, Malfoy challenged Harry to a duel at midnight in the trophy room, but he added, "Granger, you should probably stay in the tower. Don't want to see me blast Potter, do you?" . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. Hermione didn't understand why Draco didn't want her to come, but even though Harry and Ron were breaking rules, she knew she couldn't just listen to a Slytherin's advice and let her best friend die! That night, Hermione tried convincing Harry and Ron not to fall for Draco's trick and stay at Gryffindor tower, but they wouldn't budge. Apparently, it was the only way to "prove themselves and show Draco that they're better than him," or at least according to Ron. Hermione had no choice but to come along and face what was going to happen next. When they were leaving the common room, Harry, Ron, and Hermione heard footsteps. "Guys, what's the passwor again?" The trio exhaled in relief as they noticed the owner of the footsteps was only Neville Longbottom, another Gryffindor. As Hermione opened her mouth to tell Neville the passwor was Pig Snout, she and the others noticed something changed about the painting. The fat lady had apparently gone for a night time stroll. . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. "Well then, Neville, you can just come with us to watch Harry kill Draco Malfoy!" Ron said, excitedly. Neville trembled fearfully, but accepted the offer, since there was nothing else for him to do anyway. After the four got to the trophy room, they waited for ages and ages. Malfoy, and Crabbe and Goyle never showed up. Just when they were thinking about heading back, they heard someone speak. "They must be somewhere in here, my sweet." It was the caretaker, Argus Filch, and his cat Mrs. Norris. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville ran as fast as they could out of the room and back to their tower. Unfortuantely, a poltergeist was lurking right in the hallway they were running too. All four of the Gryffindors begged Peeves to just let them go, but unfortunately, something Ron said just made it worse. "STUDENTS OUT OF BED!" Peeves yelled, and Hermione swore she could hear Filch gasp. There was no time to lose. The four friends ducked under Peeves and ran as if their lives depended on it. They ran and ran, until they faced a locked door. It was a dead end, the only way to continue was the door. Hermione thought back as hard as she could, and suddenly remembered the Unlocking Charm. "Alohomora!" She yelled. Suddenly, she was face to face with a three headed dog. . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. Just before Hermione yelled "RUN!" She noticed a handle underneath the dog. It was apparently guarding something. Thankfully, the Gryffindors got to their tower in time, without getting caught or bitten by the dog. The morning after they got tricked by Draco, Hermione told Harry and Ron about her trap door theory. Harry seemed quite interested in it, but Ron wasn't paying attention. One more thing that added to Hermione's puzzled thoughts was why Draco didn't want Hermione to come to the duel. Didn't he want her to get in trouble, too? Unless... it could only mean one thing... . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. Stay Tuned for Part 10!
