Click space or click the screen for the next costume Void-Cap entry: The void-cap is a unique mushroom which is descended from the honey fungus. It convergently evolved with the earthstars mushrooms; having similar petal-like structures to protect their spores. The mushroom has a glowing green base on the bottom. If there's too much radiation, the mushroom will glow blue. Like the mushrooms in Chernobyl, the mushroom is black and solely relies on radio synthesis (a process when a mushroom grows with radiation). They have a special sac inside which is crucial for upcoming fruiting seasons. The mushroom coats the spores with sporopollenin. This protects the spores from being destroyed by the radiation, since the mushroom's spores are very sensitive to it. The sac is pretty fragile, and can be destroyed easily. Even a slight poke can break it. Sporefly: The sporefly is a mutated species of cranefly. It has small sharp hooks on its feet to scrape off the skin of the void-cap mushroom. The insect is heavily reliant on this mushroom species, and important for its life cycle. The Mutant insect lays the eggs (about to 40 - 50) inside the mushroom, which hatches for only a few days. When the larvae hatch, they start eating the spores. If there are no spores left, the larvae activate cannibalism mode, or start eating the mushroom's tough chitin. Only one or two remains inside the mushroom. The larvae will eventually turn to pupae when their larval stage is fully grown. The mushroom's room temperature warms the pupae up. When the pupae hatches, the adult will scrape its way out (with its sharp hooks), or fly away out of the mushroom in the fruiting season (summer - fall).
