Link waved goodbye to Kogha before entering his tent. He threw his fist into the air. “YES!” he shouted, bouncing on the balls of his feet. He would finally see Hyrule, as he began to gather his gear. He glanced to the right and saw his demon carver. It was a large circular blade, and four spiked crests shot out within it, its sharp tip cutting through his tent. He walked over to it, eyeing it carefully before kneeling to grab it. “This will come in handy,” he mumbled, tossing the carver into his bag. He also packed a lantern, his Yiga bow supplied with arrows, and a bountiful amount of food before returning to the outdoors, bidding farewell to his home. Little did he know that he would never see his home the same again. The thoughts of the unknown crept into his mind. Vast forests, wild horses trotting the plains, and rich flowers infusing the air. Most of all, he would encounter Hylians, the thing he loathed the most. His footsteps echoed against the canyon walls, and vultures circled ahead of him, looking for an afternoon snack. Sunlight hit the red rocks, and monster noises faded along the walls. Link stopped for a second. He wasn’t used to the silence. Back at the Yiga Hideout, there was always noise—footsteps, chatter, weapons clinking against stone. Here, there was just silence. Only the wind to keep him company. He peered to the side of him and grabbed his satchel. He flung the golden clasp up and reached for a banana. He gave a shy smile as he gobbled it down. ‘Bananas are the best cure!’ Master Kogha’s voice echoed in his mind. “Sadly, the snack break’s over,” Link breathed, as his legs started up again. His mind drifted off to his one objective: capturing Princess Zelda. This wasn’t the first time Master Kogha ordered this task to a Yiga. For all who mustered up the courage to attempt it failed. If there was a sliver of hope in one surviving, Master Kogha would end it with death. Link’s body grew cold at the thought of it. ‘Failure is not acceptable…’ he repeated Kogha’s words again in his head. Soon, he saw a Hylian striding past him. She had red hair and wore a large purple skirt with a brown apron. Link came to a halt and glared at the girl. She stopped and squinted up at him. “Can I…help you?” she asked, her voice soft but steady. Link’s hair blew down his cloak that surrounded his body. He unsheathed his demon carver from behind him, preparing to fight. She tilted her face, puzzled. Then Link leaped for her. The girl widened her eyes, bursting into a run. He swung his blade; the steel whistled over her hair by an inch. Her heart pounded violently as she twisted around. Tears formed, streaming down like rivers. Link drove into a sprint. The girl turned back around, color drained from her face. He swung his carver again, snipping her hair by a centimeter. Link could hear her breath. It was like she inhaled broken glass. She tumbled on the ground as her face met the sand. He paused, before snatching her up by her shirt. “Wait…please…” her voice rasped, breaking off. His eyes narrowed, clenching his demon carver. “Please….don’t h-hurt m-me,” she stuttered, her hands shaking. Link then noticed a pouch slightly opened on her waist belt. He could see rupees from inside, all different colors—purple, green, red, and gold. He seized the pouch, dropping the girl into the sand. “I’m not going to destroy you. I just came for this,” Link explained, rolling his eyes. The girl shifted to her feet and gave one last frightened glance before scurrying away without saying another word. Link stood alone in the canyon. The wind moved through the cliffs without a sound. A/N: Sorry this chapter is really short with only 646 words! BUT the next chapter is going to be longer I promise! This is my least favorite chapter so far. Chapter 3 is WAYYY more interesting, but I'll wait to post it :) Previous chapter: Next:
