The clergy is made up of 2 distinct parts. Priests: Rank 3 priests run Kerls (churches) and interact directly with the people, rank 4 assist them. Rank 2 priests also own entire estates of land where they employ monks and other people to work for them. Rank 1 monks are political advisors, governors and have the jarlkling (advisors to the můmaling) , the most important of these rank 1 priests are the můmaling (secondary government that advises the king, it’s made up of 13 priests, they make decisions for the entire religion. Monks: Monks run their own monasteries, these monasteries act semi-independent from the regions they are in, monks help out in their local communities. Monasteries act like hostels from travellers and hospitals in rural areas far from healthcare services. Rank 1 and 2 monks rule these monasteries as democracies, the different ranks are elected. All monks are trained in the art of warfare. Not all monasteries are so great, some use warrior monks to intimidate the locals into paying them taxes. Most monasteries are fortified and are too powerful for the military to disarm. The priests consider themselves superior and higher ranking than monks which is causing deeper and deeper divides in the clergy.
