Tips: When you’re hunting, make sure your cubs are in view, especially if you’re suspicious that an eagle or fox is near by, and if your prey runs farther from your cubs, just turn back. When you’re hunting a rabbit, don’t go right behind it, instead go to the side, then cut it off when it turns. Prey guide: The easiest prey to catch is a vole, because they come out of holes, and sometimes run into the player, and are good if you have a starving cub, they feed 1 cub. Frogs are also easy to catch, they feed 1 cub The second easiest thing to catch is a rabbit, which you sneak up on, then sprint to catch them, though they are good at turns, and they feed 2 cubs. Harder prey to catch is pheasant, which can run pretty fast, but feeds 3 cubs. A grouse, which is found in the snowy tundra biome, also feeds 3 cubs, but is harder to catch, makes an alarm call, which can be mistaken for a cub screeching. A fox can be eaten even though it’s a predator, it feeds 4 cubs, but is quite hard to catch unless it is running towards you, freezes, or is carrying one of your cubs. To keep them away, move toward them, then they’ll run away. An eagle can’t be caught unless it snatches one of your cubs,it feeds all four of your cubs. A deer is one of the hardest prey to catch, though very rewarding. It feeds all 4 cubs and the mother lynx. Eggs are not typical prey, but can be found either on the ground, or knocked down from trees. They feed all 4 cubs and the mother lynx. Predator guide: Foxes are the easiest predator to keep away, and are slowed down when they catch a cub, so you can still save your cub. When there’s a fox around, your cubs will usually start clustering near you, and meowing, sometimes growling noises will play, and you will hear twigs snapping and rustling, even if nobody is walking. You can chase them away, and to make sure it stays away, then move to where the fox was, and it’ll be startled away. Hawks, or eagles, are very dangerous, but you can save your cubs when an eagle catches one. When a hawk is around, your cubs will start meowing, then you’ll hear intense music, and a bird screech, then it will swoop down and snatch one of your cubs, and your cub will start yowling and screeching. To save them, sprint to the hawk and jump, and you’ll knock it down, and your cub will be saved. Wolves are very dangerous, and will knock out mother Lynx, and will k1ll cubs on contact! They can be avoided if you scent view and see a large group of wolves, then walk the other way, make sure you cubs are close. If you do wander near the wolves, or they wander to you, make sure there’s a ledge you can leap to. In normal mode, your cubs, no matter the age, will follow you up the ledge. If there’s no ledges, then catch medium to large prey, such as rabbits or deer, but wolves don’t stop for voles, when the alpha wolf eats the prey, it will howl and retreat, they cannot be k1lled. Bears will knock the mother lynx down, and she’ll lose consciousness. They won’t k1ll cubs, but when you wake up, your cubs will be hungry, and one will be laying down. You need to hunt as quickly as possible, or your cubs could d13. Bears cannot be k1lled. Weather guide: Storms are dangerous, as they cause lightning. Forest fires are caused when lightning hits a tree. To tell when a forest fire will start, when you call, instead of meows, mother lynx will hiss, so when you’re in the forest and the mother lynx starts hissing when you press the call button, and the sky will be orange, so you should get out of the forest as soon as possible. Another tell tale sign is when it’s cloudy, so never go into the forest when it’s cloudy. The lonesome fog is one of the scariest occasions in Shelter 2. It usually happens in the starting area and Lake, and when it happens, the sky will turn brownish red, and visibility will become much more limited than regular vision. Predators and prey will disappear, and mother lynx’s calls will turn into shrieks and hisses. If you are near the mountains or forest, then you should move into them. If not, then stay completely still, and make sure all cubs are near you. If a cub stops moving and starts meowing, then pick it up for a short time, then drop it. If you leave a cub behind, or it wanders too far, a loud drumming and a growling noise will play, use your scent view to search for the lost cub. If you don’t do that, other cubs will become panicked and start meowing and yowling. If a cub is lost for too long, it will d13. If a cub d13s in the fog, then it will clear up immediately, otherwise, you need to wait a few seconds to 2 minutes for it to clear. (Continued below)
(Continued) Items guide: You can collect various items in Shelter 2, such as feathers, rocks, mushrooms, sticks, and skulls. You can find most of these by wandering around the map, and you obtain skulls by catching prey such as rabbits, fowl, foxes, and eagles. Smaller animals like voles and frogs don’t drop skulls. Area guide: The big tree in the middle is the den, the three mountains are the mountains region, the three trees are the lake, and the snowflake is the tundra. Behavior guide: When the mother lynx starts hissing or growling instead of the normal meow, then there’s possible danger near by, and she is panicking. When cubs start meowing out of nowhere, they're either hungry, cold/tired, or panicking. When your cub starts meowing, look around with scent view, if you see a fox, either wait for it to come nearer, or chase it off and move to where it was. If you let it come nearer, you have to move quick to catch it, otherwise it will snatch one of your cubs. If the cub is arching its back, then pick it up for a few moments, then put it down, then it will be better. If there’s no predators near by, look for easy to catch prey such as voles or rabbits. If a cub lays down and is yowling, other cubs will sit down and start yowling too, then look for food IMMEDIATELY, otherwise, your cub could d13 of starvation! Look for voles, as they are very easy to catch.
