Tw: Mentions of crying, d3@th, grief ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pansy let out a yawn as she padded across the bookstore lawn, the weak sunlight of evening glittering on her pelt. It had been a fun day, full of exploring and messing around with random twoleg items, but she was ready for a nap. However, as she entered the bookstore, she was completely unprepared for the commotion that laid in wait. The housefolk were everywhere, loud noises coming from their mouths. The smallest twoleg kits wouldn’t stop wailing, clutching their parents for dear life. What had happened? Were they mad that she had destroyed more books? Maybe mom would know… Yes that sounded right, fae would know! She knew everything! With a smile, she bounded around the shop in search of her mother, checking every corner as the thump of twoleg feet surrounded her. During her search, she accidentally bumped into a twoleg kit, and upon seeing her, it burst into more tears and pointed at her with one paw. Two adults appeared from behind a shelf and stared at her, as if they didn’t know what to do with her. So they had found out about the books? But-but…but she hadn’t destroyed /that/ many! Where was mom? She would know what’s going on! The housefolk continued to follow her as she ran out of places to search, as she started to grow uneasy. Was she not here? Was fae outside? But Cici had just been outside, and she hadn’t seen her mother out there… “Mommm? Where are you?” She mewed loudly, her pawsteps echoing in her ears. Where were her siblings too? Had they all gone missing? Only a few moments later, she saw a flash of fur that she determined to be Trinket, but her sister vanished from sight before Pan could run up to her. So only mom was missing? Was that why the twolegs were upset? Padding up to the nearest one, she gazed up at its tear-stained face with wide eyes. “It’ll be okay, she’ll come back!” It let out a sad murmuring, then, despite her protests, picked her up. The kitten struggled in its grip, but she eventually gave up and let it carry her back outside. Was it bringing her to mom? So she /was/ outside! The housefolk brought her to a small corner of the yard, where a large stone stood, with small markings on it. Hey, this wasn’t mom! “I want to see mom! Not a rock!” She complained, twisting her head to look up at the twoleg. It put her down and patted her on the head, before pointing at the rock with another round of noises she couldn’t understand. “I. Want. Mom!” Pansan demanded, but the twoleg ignored her and sat down on the grass across from the stone. It babbled to itself quietly before pulling something out of its weird fabric it wore. As the kitten examined it closely, her eyes widened at what she saw. Mom! Or at least, a piece of paper that looked like mom. Why couldn’t it just show Pansy her real mom, not a paper version? Paper versions of things were never as good. The housefolk pointed at the paper, then the rock, repeating those motions a few times before placing the image on the stone, where it magically stuck vertically. It then stood up and walked away after giving Psy another headpat. Was it going to come back with mom? But as the minutes passed, she had to admit that it wasn’t going to come back anytime soon. She turned to face the stone again, staring up at the paper Page. “Where are you? I want to see you again! This isn’t fair…” She mumbled, padding up to the rock and curling up next to it. It felt cold, the opposite of her mother. “Come back soon…” She whispered as night fell and she drifted off, still lying next to the stone with the fake Page. She would just wait for her, wait until she came back. Fae would come back eventually…right? ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The poor baby bean </3 Pansy belongs to me Page belongs to Trinket belongs to
