Hey guysss!! So you know my short story entry last time?(Footsteps at midnight) Im so sorry for releasing part 2 so late!!! Part 2: A second figure steps out from the corner behind it. Smaller. Crouched low. Its fingers drag across the floorboards with a slow scratching sound that makes my stomach twist. I stumble backward, slamming into the doorframe hard enough to rattle a picture on the wall. The taller thing doesn’t move. It just watches me with those glassy eyes, smiling wider and wider, like it’s pleased I finally noticed. Then the smaller one tilts its head. Crack. The sound is sharp—wrong—like snapping twigs. "Mom?” it whispers. My blood turns to ice. The voice is perfect. Exactly hers. I know it isn’t her. I know that. But every instinct in my body screams to answer anyway. The taller figure lifts one long arm and points toward the hallway behind me. A floorboard creaks. Not in my room. Outside it. I spin around. At the end of the dark hallway stands another silhouette. This one human. A woman in a rain-soaked coat. Mom. She looks terrified. “Don’t listen to them,” she says, barely above a whisper. The creatures in my room begin laughing softly—wet, choking sounds bubbling from their throats. Mom takes one shaky step toward me. Then the hallway light suddenly flickers back on. For half a second, everything becomes bright enough to see clearly. The creatures are gone. My room is empty. And my mother— is smiling the exact same smile.
