Prologue. Hollycoat's perspective. Hollycoat stepped into the clearing, the moonlight showing her stripes on her pelt. She padded over to the Moonrock, sniffing the air, hoping for no danger to delay her speaking with Moonclan. The grass here was soft, and worked as a good place to rest, or sunbathe. Clouds swept in front of the moon, making it darker, and harder to see. As the moon showed through again, Hollycoat took her chance and ran over to the Moonrock. She laid down in the moonlit clearing and closed her eyes, waiting. Finally, sleep took her mind from her, and all went dark. She opened her eyes, light poured in, and in front of her stood a larger starry tom. She didn’t fear him though, this was Brokensight, the clan's previous leader, who retired after going blind. He stepped towards her, with a nervous look began to spread across his face. He shifted uncomfortably. “Brokensight? Is everything in Moonclan alright?” Hollycoat asked, clearly concerned. Her eyes darted around the open plain looking for clues on what might be wrong. “You must prepare your clan for a new she cat.” he explained, "She will bring destruction, and war. However, you must let her into your clan, no matter what happens. No exiling, no killing, no getting rid of her on purpose. Because with this war she brings, she will bring lots of power, and many kits for your clan.” His expression was stern. He meant it, and meant it well. Hollycoat could only imagine what this she cat might bring, but she knew she had to stay strong. Her clan needed her, to carry this task, and no-one else. Right? “ What about my apprentice? Can he know? Or should I be the one to carry out this task?" Hollycoat questioned, hoping she could share this information. Brokensight shook his head yes and Hollycoat heaved a long sigh. She dipped her head and closed her eyes. She opened them again. She drank in the sweet scent of Moonclan, wondering when they might speak to her again. “ I’m confused, you could at least have told me the coat color so I can recognize her.” she scowled, hoping her stern voice would get her an answer. Brokensight didn’t answer and stared off in another direction, looking guilty of something. “ She's a kitty pet isn't she? You can”t be telling me she’s. A. KITTYPET!” she yelped, enraged. Hollycoat was a nice cat at heart, yet would always hold a grudge against kittypets. “Yeah, she’s a kittypet, so suck it up. She’s coming whether you want her to or not.” He answered with a snorting laugh. “Do you wish to speak with your mother? Or should I leave you on a lower note?” “Darling, it’s good to see you. Stay strong for me will you, my flowering kitten? Hard times are ahead, and your clan needs you more than ever” Seekerstone’s voice was calm and soothing, almost causing Hollycoat to forget what was important in the current moment. “Mother? Do you know anything else about this… kittypet?” Hollycoat dragged that last word out of her mouth with dread. Her mother was attacked by kittypets when she was little, so when her mother told her about the incident, her fur would be put on edge. “Yes yes, I do know something. A patrol is going to go out, and attack her, due to thinking she is a threat. If this happens, hope for glory might be lost.” her mother answered. “Your visit is now over, go home. Oh, and my flowering kitten, don't die for me. Kay? And don’t tell your clan just yet. The arrival of the kittypet is a lot. They don’t need more stress about you and your, well, you know. Just don’t say much. And always know I’m proud” “Thanks for not saying anything about them mum. See at the half moon gathering…” Hollycoat answered and she turned around. “Goodbye, Moonclan.” Hollycoat said as she walked away. She closed her eyes and came back to the real world. Brokensight’s and Seekerstone’s scent lingered in the air, comforting her. As she walked north, to her territory, she grabbed some herbs, like watermint, and catmint. Hollycoat grabbed a couple extra leaves yarrow, their taste making her snout scrunch. A lot of time had passed, it was now morning, and her time to pay her respects to the spirits in the river of blood. She walked over to the side of the bank, and touched noses with the water. It was ice cold, sending a shiver down her spine. Hollycoat picked her herbs back up and walked back in a northern direction towards her territory. As she walked over a small hill, she could finally see her camp, nestled inside a small valley of orange rock. Twoleg homes were placed on the western side of the camp, with a small forest towards the eastern side of camp. On the northern side, was a cliff side, with small caves they fled to during the flood season in Newleaf. When she finally walked into camp, she was greeted with many smiles. Hollycoat walked over to the leader's den, eager to tell the news Moonclan gave her. She stepped in the mouth of the cave, and waited for permission to enter. continued in "notes and credits"!!!
“ Who is it?” Skywing said as her shadow began to loom over his body. “It’s me, sir, Hollycoat.” Hollycoat answered, hoping he would remember her. Skywing was getting much older, and planned to retire soon. Grassclaw would take over and take the name of Grasswing. “I share troubling news, Skywing. Do you have time?” Hollycoat asked. She sat down in the entrance. The dirt of the roof beat down on her pelt, making her wonder how safe all these caves were. Skywing flicked his tail beckoning her to come in. She stepped in, her paws soothed by the cool dirt beneath her. When she reached him he looked at her. He did this a lot. It meant to hurry up and spill chervil leaves. She looked at her paws and back at Skywing. She explained everything Moonclan had told her, telling him everything she knew about this new she-cat coming. Skywing shifted nervously when she told him about the doom she might bring to this clan, or the glory she might bring, and how small the chance was for it to tip the right way. He stood up and told her to follow him out of the den, and to high tree. He leapt up into the tree and yowled for the attention of his clan. “Let all cats old enough to climb, gather beneath high tree for a clan meeting!” Skywing bellowed. “I have two announcements to make. Both are very Important. First, a kittypet will be wandering in these woods soon. She is a large grey and white she-cat with a green collar. Please, if you see her, leave her alone. Moonclan has said things might happen if we attack her. Secondly, I will be retiring. And Grassclaw will be the new leader. Grassclaw, please step forward.” Skywing meowed, and Grassclaw stepped forward. “Grassclaw, I call upon our warrior ancestors to look down upon this deputy, who has learned the noble ways of your code, and defends this clan to his very end. To lead this clan in their very paw steps, it takes great deeds, and I know that you will do well, Grassclaw. I hereby declare you leader of Featherclan. By the powers of Moonclan, I hail you by your new name, Grasswing.” Skywing yowled. He began to climb down the tree, but paused and sat back up. “Lastly, since I am no longer leader, my new name is Skyfeather.” He finally climbed off the tree and walked over to the elders' den. “Due to the fact that Skyfeather is no longer leader, we must appoint a new deputy. Would Sunsand please step forward? You have served this clan well as a warrior, and will serve better as deputy. I ask Moonclan to look down upon this cat, and give her the courage to lead with faith and wisdom. Will you work on this clan's side, and defend us at all costs, even if that be your life?” Grasswing asked Sunsand. “It’d be my best honour sir. I will do my best to lead this clan in the future, at your unfortunate downfall.” she answered with hope that grasswing chose the right cat for the job. Hollycoat stalked away from the ceremony, wondering what else Grasswing might say. She could hear the faint murmuring of the elders. She shook her head and walked back to her den. She went over to her stores, making sure she had everything she needed. Chervil? Yup. Catmint? Yup. Borage leaves? Yup. Literally, everything else? Yup. * * * Screams rang out from the center of camp, Hollycoat ran out in confusion. Bobcattial and his apprentice staggered into the clearing, blood dripping from their hides. Hollycoat ran over and began pushing the two over to her den, careful not to make them bleed even more. She sat the two down on some moss beddings and ran to her herbs, not even questioning what happened. She snatched the cob webs and began to lay them down on the wounds that bled out the most. “h-hi Hollycoat” Birdpaw said with a slight smile, and then slipped away to unconsciousness. Her body flopped onto the ground and Bobcatail cried out. He tried to get up and touch his apprentice, but Hollycoat pushed him back. “Rest you mouse brain! She’s fine!” she yelled at him. But then she remembered. She and Bobcattail had just gone on a patrol, and they come back like this? Who could have done this? Rouges? It didn’t matter. She would care for these two, and learn what happened after the two woke up.
