First ride on Dreamer Update Our little Dreamer is all grown up and ready to be ridden! I have been backing Dreamer for about four months, I wanted him to be in the best shape and position to star riding. In all this time he’s learned how to be a climate to the saddle, saddle pad, half pad, bridle, and bit; as well as being desensitized to every thing I could ever think of and in hand to learn how to use the bit! For our first ride I went through our normal routine when working; brushed him off, tacked him, went on a little walk around the yard, and then brought him to the arena. But today I made him stand still, put one foot in the stirrup, which I had done a few times to get him used to it, all though I had never gotten on. I pulled my self into the saddle very slowly and gently. He seemed pretty unfazed, though one of his ears was on the limit of being backwards. I gave him a treat, that he absolutely loved! Then I simply asked him to walk and he did this, a trick I used while working on the lunge line with him. He had a nice forward walk, but not enough to be a trot! Then I gave him a treat, asked for stop this time I used the reins to get him used to the bit and he stopped, another treat! I got off slow and gentle, and decided to call it a day! He was amazing, as he has a quite fiery personality he did not seem to show that much today, which was just AMAZING!
