If he ever gets in a fight, he might switch forms during that fight, each form is hotter/stronger than the last, so red is the weakest, and white is the strongest. (and fires can actually look like this too, you just don't see them very often because they're THAT HOT) he can also change forms when someone is trying to destroy the universe, it's not only when he's in a fight.
