Willow, a yearling, leaves his pack early in search of a mate. He eventually comes across a beige dispersal who is two years older than him, but they have similar goals; find a mate. The she-wolf quickly finds he is only a yearling and refuses to have her mate as a ‘child’. Willow doesn’t get the hint, especially when she tries to nick his ear. To try to impress her he brings prey, treasures and scares off potential mates for her. Sand eventually realizes she is stuck with him, but she doesn’t give into his antics. She eventually finds a mate, a black, four year old wolf who ends up forcing Willow to keep his distance. But, the relationship is short lived, in an attempt to protect Sand and their three pups from a bear he is killed. Willow, who is now three years old, slams into the bear. Startled, the grizzly bear runs off.
