So I finished I’ve got to say I’m pretty disappointed I think I just stop liking it around the time that L died, and since nearly all of the other characters are insufferable, it was very difficult to finish watching it, even though I knew what was going to happen before I watched the show. Still, getting through L’s death was rough, especially since they drew it out so long. So yeah, basically the only reason I finished was so that I could watch Light lose, but the episodes after L’s death felt empty, and the ending felt very rushed. The other problem was that all the people that annoyed me initially just got worse and worse as the series went on, which made it even more difficult to watch. I was literally JUST watched this show for L. Idk, this feels like a hot take since so many people love this show, I just don’t think I would watch it again, cause as much as I love L as a character, it was hard enough watching him just get absolutely disrespected for the entire series and I am not eager to do that again. So overall, I would rate Death Note somewhere around a 6/10. Like I said before, I didn’t hate EVERY character except for L, there was a few I tolerated, and a few others I liked. Here’s a list of my liked characters, tolerated characters, and hated characters, with one being how strongly I feel that way about the character in regards to the category that they are assigned to: Liked: 1. L: Obviously, L is my favorite. I watched this show for him and it sucked after he died. Yes, I do realize that he’s not perfect as a person, but he made this show watchable for me. 2. Ryuk: Man, Ryuk. I just can’t hate him. It’s the fact that he just genuinely doesn’t care about either side that makes me like him. Silly dude. 3. Naomi Misora: She was DONE DIRTY. She solved the case immediately and immediately got killed off because of Lights stupid plot armor. By far the smartest woman in the series. AND THE WORK SHE DID BEFORE THE SERIES ON THE BB CASE? Man. She needed way more screen time. That was just disrespectful. 4. Wedy: WEDY MY GIRL I mean she’s literally so cool, she rides a motorcycle and she’s a burglar? SO COOL. She was ALSO DONE DIRTY, and she DID NOT need to die. Aiber is also cool I guess Tolerated: (This one is from most on the edge to the ones I just don’t care about) 1. Teru Mikami: Ok, this is kind of a hear-me-out, but I just can’t hate him. I really just feel bad for him for no reason. Idk. His death was kinda sad. 2. Near: Idk, I think the only reason I didn’t hate him was because I missed L so much, even though he’s an unoriginal copy of L. Yes, yes, I know he was playing to win which is way he won and blah blah blah, but I got tired of trying to hate him, tbh. 3. Mello: Same thing as Near. I wanted to hate him for taking L’s place with Near but I just ended up feeling sorry for him. 4. Namikawa: I never hated him, even though he’s pretty bad, but he did not deserve to go out like that. Really unfortunate, he was such an interesting character. 5. Aizawa and Togi: They’re going in the same spot because IT SURE TOOK THEM LONG ENOUGH. Still, at least they eventually figured it out. 6. Halle Penber: She’s cool, but what they heck is going on between this 30 year old woman and a 19 year old boy, THAT I would like to know. 7. Everyone else I forgot Hated: 1. Light: This shouldn’t even be a question. Light is the most horrible person in the show (by far) and made it incredibly difficult to watch, especially since it’s mostly in his POV. Especially how he thinks of and treats women. Horrible. Dreadful. I also cheered when he died, along with Misa. 2. Misa: I CANNOT EVEN DESCRIBE TO YOU THE RAGE I FEEL WHEN SHE IS ON SCREEN I GENUINELY WANTED TO BREAK SCREEN. SHE IS THE MOST SELFISH HORRIBLE ANNOYING INDIVIDUAL EVER AND I CHEERED WHEN SHE DIED. THE ONLY REASON THAT SHE IS NOT ABOVE LIGHT IS BECAUSE LIGHT KILLED L. THAT IS THE ONLY REASON. 3. Rem: SPEAKING OF MISA her shinigami is also horrible ITS YOUR FAULT L IS DEAD I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU 4. Soichiro Yagami: OPEN YOUR EYES! HOW BLIND ARE YOU?! That’s all I have to say. 5. Matsuda: So annoying and stupid L is genuinely right about him. Except he did redeem himself a bit when he shot Light five times. I’ll give him that. But before that, he went from getting better to complete idiot by the final episode. 6. Kiyomi Takada: I don’t really care, but she annoyed me.
