[March 1st, 1904] In response to recent industrial pushback by farmers, Røne-Pälysovia has begun a colonization initiative to Faronsland, the large island south of the nation. For a reasonably small sum of money, any farmer can secure a nice large guaranteed plot of land, away from the roar of industry and where they can return to their traditional nomadic ways. Of course, this isn't the only reason for this. Governments even before the Dual Republic have been eying Faronsland, and colonization efforts have been around on small scales since the early 1800s. Only now has there been a major push to take the island, using the growing unrest from industrialization to bolster it. Faronsland's governance is unusual as of now. Since Faronsland doesn't clearly fit under Rønnd or Pälysovia, the island is governed as the "Southern Territories", with a ramshackle elected council to run it. However, this council may as well be held together by glitter glue, as most things get bogged down in arguments and land disputes. Big industry is also getting in the way. With all their money and newfound power, the factories are trying to jump on the opportunity of free land. Of course, Røne-Pälysovia has to stop them through legal loopholes and laws, otherwise Faronsland will just descend into anarchy. Despite the hurdles, colonization is going surprisingly smoothly. Most people in the country's upper governance believe that the island will likely not be fully inhabited until the 30's, but will at least be fully claimed as Røne-Pälysovic by the 10's. These numbers are still highly subject to change as Rønnd - the traditionally more rural one of the two nations - modernizes, and more farmers will likely leave for a land where industry isn't a constant challenge to navigate. Faronsland is the next frontier and a new haven for the country's economic backbone. But will it end up how it was originally envisioned? Who knows?
lore reasons for colonizing formerly-polaria uh yea art's kinda crappy but it works
