- tw! drowning, fear - All was quiet in the nursery. Every sound seemed muted by dreams, each shift and snort and roll blanketed by the white noise of wind that filled his brain. No, that wasn’t wind. Those were waves. And all of a sudden, he was drowning. The pull of the most vast of bodies urging him down, towards the darker end of it’s never ending gradient. He could barely see, bubbles filling his vision, his pelt heavy and lifeless, as if he were already lost to the depths. He was freezing, limbs atrophying, the ocean fathoms colder than anything he had ever felt before, so beyond the sunlit fields and soft moss he used to enjoy… He fought against the water, the salt biting into him in every inch of his body, corroding his fur, dissolving his will. Water water and more water pressed around him, muffling his panicked closed-mouth cries, trying and failing to hold in his last breath before he simply couldn’t take it anymore. He opened his maw in a scream of pain, of terrified desperation, and seawater filled his lungs. He reached a waving paw to the fading light above- -and with a gasp he emerged, heaving in beautiful mouthfuls of air, sweet air. He was back in his nest, fur dampened from sweat, the ghost of seawater. His siblings slept peacefully beside him, their breathing like the crashing of waves. The moonlight shone in through the den entrance, like the last tendrils of light at the bottom of the sea. And there he stared until dawn.
