It was the Christmas holidays. Marleen traveled to SeaClan. When Marleen arrived, it was already dark, but her mother, Greenshadow, was still awake. Goldstripe knew that her mother would soon become leader. The next morning, Goldstripe woke up early. However, the other cats were already awake and had gathered around the rock where Silverstar stood. She addressed the cats: "Beloved cats of SeaClan, today I am stepping down from my position. I will join the elders and spend the final moons of my life there! I am naming a new leader. This cat may either keep the current deputy or choose a new one. The new leader will be Greenshadow; from this day forth, she shall be known as Greenstar! I am relinquishing my title and will once again be called Silverdream. This gathering is concluded." She stepped down from the rock and walked to the elders' den. Greenstar climbed onto the rock and announced: "As I am now becoming leader, I am setting off immediately for the Moonstone to receive my nine lives from the ancestors. I appoint Brookstripe as my deputy!" Then she stepped down from the rock and walked over to Goldstripe. Goldstripe said, "Mom? Can I ask you something?" "Of course." "Well, Mom... I wanted to ask if I could have a new name. I feel like 'Goldstripe' doesn't really suit me." "That's true." With that, Greenstar returned to the warriors' den to consult with Brookstripe. Afterward, she set off for the Moonstone.
