The Battle of Gundarlaf Ford

Course: Before the civil war officially began the 2nd and 3rd national armies had been ordered to march east and dissolve the Golden Sun’s parliament. But the giant converged army of 60k men moved at a very slow pace, when war was declared they had just reached Narenburg, the last Relaen frontier town, still 20km from the Golden Sun’s claimed territories border at the Ientenlarjn River. When the army finally reached the river and decided to give the troops a brake and then cross on the 19th of February, 1906. The 4th and 5th national Drenik armies had learned of their position on the 2nd of January 1906 and had been shadowing their forces. They had informed the Ferlavitn Monastery of the army’s position and the Blood Eagles, a large Anarchist Engen (kind of like a militia), together these armies where 16k strong. On the 15th of February these 3 armies quietly surrounded their enemies, then on the 19th the attack began, Drenik intelligence had found out this was the day the imperial troops would cross, a perfect time to ambush them. At 12pm the 2nd army was almost finished crossing, this is when the attack began. The Drenik armies attacked from the west, moving quickly they fought to secure the hill over looking the 2nd army, they surrounded the army and pushed them back towards the river. The imperial cap lock muskets stood no chance against the breech loading rifles, they where completely outranged and far less accurate. On the other side of the river the monks and blood eagles used a similar tactic, they pushed the imperialists towards the river and then started shooting them from far out of their range, the monks didnt have to fight for a hill as the imperial forces had already left it to cross the river. The monks set up their artillery here quickly mowing down thousands, these weren’t regular cannons, they had brought Drenik made machine guns. By 1pm fighting on the west bank had stopped, the overwhelmed 3rd army, which wasn’t made up of very loyal troops anyways surrendered. On the east side the 2nd army had lost a 1/3rd of its men but refused to surrender, these men where a lot more loyal, but they where inflicting tiny casualties on the Dreniks who simply stayed out of range. By now the Drenik’s rifled artillery began firing from the hill overlooking the battlefield. By 1:30 even the 2nd army had surrendered. The battle had ended shockingly fast and has left a gaping hole in imperial lines.
