As preparations for Yuichi's ascension to Emperor were underway, the nervous prince was found far more removed from those in the palace than usual. When he was needed for ceremonial rehearsals, Yuichi was instead often found in a secluded part of the palace's royal gardens. Enraged by his continuous absence, Takasane thought to seek out Yuichi by himself to lecture him and "whip him into shape." What followed was an hours-long Imperial Guard-aided search of the palace's premises, and absolutely no trace of Yuichi's whereabouts. Eventually, Takasane realized the only part of the palace not yet searched was Yuichi's room. Upon entering, he found a note upon his son's desk...
