The Labrinth Competition I was sitting in the sun reading my book about Greek Mythology when my horse Frozen Speckles came running up to me and started nosing my pockets. I gave her a carrot and started reading again. I read 2 more chapters and then noticed I was hot. I went down to the stream to get a drink and then went inside my house. I looked at the clock and was surprised to see it was 6:47 PM. I made my dinner and sat down and saw my passport to the island of Create. 6 days later I was boarding The Dolphin which was the ship that would take me to Create. I was walking to the hold that would be taking Frozen Speckles when she started to run. I ran after her and eventually found myself on the main deck. I ran into the captain and thought that I was in trouble but he understood my horse was probably scared and he helped me take my horse back to the animal hold. Once we arrived at Crete I went to get Frozen Speckles out of the hold when two other people came up to me and asked where I was going. I told them I was going to a competition but said nothing more. The two people said that they were also going to a competition. We talked for a little while and then went our own ways. I went and got Frozen Speckles and found only 9 horses not counting mine. I took Frozen Speckles off the ship and started walking toward our hotel. The next 3 days were spent exploring Crete. On the third day, Frozen Speckles stopped to nose around in some bushes. I pulled her away, but the closer I got to the bushes, the warmer I felt, and there was a strange magic feeling. I told myself I was being silly, but I kept thinking about the bushes. The next morning I left for the competition, but then I noticed I did not have a map. So I sat down and thought about how to get there. After a few minutes of thinking, Frozen Speckles started to pull on the halter. I told her to stop, but she kept pulling. So I got up and followed her to the bushes we had seen the day before. Frozen Speckles dove into the bushes and yanked the halter out of my hands. I went down after her, and found myself being sucked somewhere. Frozen Speckles and I were spinning around downwards at the same time. I managed to grab her halter, but it did not do much. We began to slow down and ten seconds later we landed neatly on our feet right in front of a door. I looked at Frozen Speckles to make sure she was alright and she gave me the closest she could get to a grin. I decided to open the door and it was like the only thing I could do. The door opened out into a large room. Inside the room ten people were sitting at a table talking. As I entered, the people stopped talking and stared at me. I stared back. The door opposite me opened and a man walked in. He started counting us, and when he reached eleven, he sat down and said, “Odd, very odd.” We looked at each other and then at the man. The man said, “There should only be ten of you here. And yet, there are eleven. So one of you was not invited to the competition.” One of the ten seated at the table pointed at me and said, “This was the last person to arrive. She must be the one who should not be here.” The man looked at me and said, “Is this true?” I said, “Yes, I was the last person here, but I was told to come. I can show you my invitation.” “Show it to me,” said the man. I showed him my letter and he said, “You are not the false person.” The man checked all the people’s letters and soon found the false person. He sent her away and began the meeting. The man talked for a while and then he said, “So, all of you will take part in the competition and you will be judged according to how well you do in the labyrinth. Does anybody have any questions for me?” The people said no and the man led us to another room. We stayed there a while talking until the man walked in and said, “Rider One, we are ready for you.” The person opposite me got up and walked out of the room. I was the fourth person to leave. I was led to an opening and the man said, “You will ride your horse through the labyrinth and the timing will determine your place. Do not fear getting lost because we will be able to find you. Now when you hear a beep you can start.” About one minute later I heard someone say, “Please be on your horse and ready in ten seconds.” Then I heard a beep. I immediately started off. Frozen Speckles understood that we had to be fast and she ran as fast as possible. Soon we reached a turn. I decided to go left. We kept going until we felt ourselves falling. (read more in credits)
We kept falling until we saw a sign coming up. I tried to read it as fast as I could and it said, “Water Ahead!” I had practiced diving with Frozen Speckles and we were ready for the water. We saw lights ahead and soon saw the water. We were ready. SPLASH! We were in the water. Frozen Speckles swam us to a bank and we climbed out. We started off again and soon saw a box. The box had a sign on it which read, “Choose your prize. Take only one. We have cameras, so only choose one.” I looked in the box and saw oats and water and a nice jumping helmet. I decided to give some of the oats and water to Frozen Speckles. She took them gladly and I was careful to give her only a bit so she would be fine to run again. Out of a rock came a noise that sounded like someone saying, “She chose right. Fifty points.” I was not sure what it meant, but it did not seem to matter. We started off again and soon were a ways from the trap door. Soon we reached a door. We went through and were splashed with water. We went onwards dripping a little and thought we must be nearly done and came to a room. In the room there were three doors and two wires. I jumped off Frozen Speckles and inspected the wires. There seemed to be nothing concerning about them. So I carefully stepped over them. I accidentally hit one and a cage rose from the floor and trapped us. We could see no way to escape. Frozen Speckles started sniffing around and then reared up. I came over to where she was and saw a spider. One the spider’s back was a map. I looked at the map and saw it was a map of the room we were in. The map seemed to tell us we should look to the left. So I looked to my left and saw a small object outside the cage. I went and looked at it and saw it was a key. I managed to get my hand out and reach it, but I did not know how it would help. Two minutes later I sat down and thought. As soon as a minute had gone by, I looked up and saw a hole in the ground. It was the shape of a keyhole so I stuck the key in it and a door appeared on the cage wall. I walked over to it and pushed. It fell open, but in its place came a solid brick wall. I had no idea what to do, but Frozen Speckles did. She reared and pushed on the wall and it fell away and she immediately ran out. I followed. We were out and I was very happy. I jumped on Frozen Speckles and we started again. Little did I know it was about to get a lot harder. We galloped onwards until we reached another room. Inside the room there was a door. We went through and were met with a maze. We turned left, then right, then left again. We were going straight when we reached a jump. We had no time to stop, so we flew over it, hoping we would not hit it. We did not hit it, and we were racing off again. I let Frozen Speckles have the reins for she seemed to know what she was doing. She turned left and right, occasionally flying over a jump. Five minutes later, we reached a dead end. I picked up the reins to turn Frozen Speckles around. But she would not turn around. She stayed right where she was and stared at the wall. I got down and looked at the wall. Frozen Speckles kicked it gently. I looked at almost every brick before I found a darker colored brick. I poked it, but nothing happened. I tried to see if it wiggled and it did. I pulled it out and the rest of the bricks fell away. We went onwards and flew over many jumps. Soon we reached the end of the maze. We went through a door and stopped in front of a box. The box, like the one we had seen before, had the same instructions. I looked inside and saw a hose and a ticket. The ticket said, “Bring this ticket with you to the end of the labyrinth and you will be awarded with fifty points.” I looked at the hose and saw it had a trickle of water coming out and it also had a cloth hanging from it. I decided I would use the hose to give Frozen Speckles a hose-down. After I had given her a hose-down, we went through another door. The room we entered had sixteen doors, each door said, “This way.” I began to feel dizzy and hoped Frozen Speckles knew which door to use. Thankfully she did, and we went through the seventh door to the right. Then we saw a tunnel and went through it. Then we heard loud cheers. We had reached the end of the labyrinth. (more in comments)
